It been a bit quiet on the Yorkshire forum so far this year. What are you all doing?
Its been a great first half year for me, despite the snowy start and having a small self inflicted spill.
It started with a bit of sun in the Canaries, a nice holiday while the last of the Yorkshire snow and ice cleared.
March got off to a good start with runs out to all the Northern coasts. Most weekends had blue skies but were very cold and snow patches on the hills. We started with a run to Roe island at Barrow, very cold with snow patches all the way.

We had one run out to check the damage to the Stape road over the moors. It was our intention to see the Blast furnaces for one last time but were turned back on health and safety grounds by the Corus security men.

The following weekend was along ride through sunny cold skies to Southport. looking at the picture you will not believe how cold it was, yet children were playing in the sea.

Easter was very early this year and we had a tour through Scotland staying at Youth hostels. Lanark was cut off in a blizzard two days before we set off but the odd weather was kind to us and we had sunshine with white capped mountains around us.

The Scottish youth hostels are a great way to have a warm cheap and friendly night when its too cold to camp. The one pictured below is at the end of a gravel track up the side of Loch Lomond.

The sun was out gain mid April and we had a good run out through Teesdale and on to Tyne side to visit the Marsden Grotto.

At the start of May we had a chance to stay at a couple of Hostels on the Welsh coast. Again the weather was good but cold for us, with sleet and snow falling on the higher peaks in Snowdonia. We stayed at St Davids and rode round the Ellan valley and over Snowdonia to stay in Conway.

The middle of May was taken up by a weeks stay in the Vosages staying in a Gite at Kaysesberg. This is a very pleasant economical way to holiday, no schedule and no pressure. The three bedroom 7 berth house was 450 euros for 7 nights. Still very cold with pockets of snow in the high passes, but six of the seven days were perfect for riding.

Three weeks to go and were off to the Tarn Gorges in the south of France.
So far 2010 has been a very good year. Despite the icy start I have had some great weekend.

Apologies to any reader who through now fault of their own are strapped for cash or by family ties unable to spend so much time riding. Im lucky to have a job and a wife who also has a Passion for riding her own F650GS.

Looks good:thumb

Had a good year so far

Couple of runs out in Dales and Moors

Cracking ride with Borderraider in the Borders

Welsh Bunkhouse weekend

Northumbria BWTI weekend

9 day 1700 mile trip to the Mosel/Black Forest/Vosges in April/May with cracking weather, full sun and 25c every day

Plenty of Trials on Sundays

Family and weather permitting

Heading to the Vosges mountains from Zeebrugge in a month.

Did you find an interesting route down?

Err yep

But a bit convuluted

Zeebrugge to Bruxelles to Dinant

Then over to Bastogne and Luxembourg and into the German Ardenne above Kaiserlauten

Kaiserlauten to Wissembourg and over to Baden Baden....................down the B500 to Freudenstadt and on down toward Lake Tittisee and then over towards Colmar, via Freiburg..........................from memory:D

Took us 3-4 days on a very roundabout way, with lots of most excellent roads

For a more direct route (from memory again)....................I would go

Zeebrugge to Bruxelles, then head for Metz m/way, exiting a Namur to Dinant to Bouillon and going south towards Sedan (east of Charleville - Meziers) and take the route down the river Meuse, towards Verdun

From Verdun, head in the direction of Metz and after Metz take the D955 towards Chateau Salins and then Luneville to Baccarat and St.Die.................then the whole Vosges opens up to you

DO.....................the Grand Ballon and Route de Cretes when you're there:thumb2

Managed one day on the lanes, and a few road-rides, aside from my daily commute.

Trip to France last month got cancelled because my army buddys got their leave revoked, and after revving myself up for a ride with the lads, I didn't fancy a long ride on my own.

Had a few issues with the bike, latest of which is the rear hugger keeps hitting my tyre (new one on backorder with RR). Speedo cable failed again (2nd cable, starting to think its a relay issue))

Aside from that not a bad year, looking forwards to late summer, as the trip to France seems to be back on for mid Sept, with another mate who just passed his test and bought a fugly green Triumph Tiger.

Also looking out for my next green lanes day (missed the last one, paintball injuries :p)

- back to work for me, only 3hours till home!

My own thing cos yer all a bunch of miserable gits that dont come along when invited so I stopped inviting.:aidan

Haven't done a decent rideout since you moved your ass up North, why don't you relocate back South so I have a good excuse to avoid doing DIY on a Sunday.:(

Cos the roads and scenery are far superior up here.
Most of the people are nice too.
They just don't seem to want to ride for the most part.:nenau

Fixed for you:thumb

I found that too

Very poor turnouts for a ride

I put it down to North/West/South and East Yorkshire, being a massive land mass and travelling distances, plus there is so much good riding, many prefer to ride alone or with their 'usual' mates

Same for TRF/BMW Club/UKGSER...................weird only to Yorkshire...........Independent folk

In other parts of the country, you get a massive turnout

I used to organise a lot of northern rideouts + a few foreign trips for the VFR Club (until it tore itself apart due to infighting) and we used to get good turnouts when starting out from central locations for the Yorks/Lancs area e.g. Skipton, Settle or Devils Bridge.

Central meets also tended to be popular as folk used to organise smaller groups to get there e.g. Reeth or Hartside.

I also organised a few for the North UK Bikers which get a good turnout of you say the pace will be slow (green or amber using their grading system), but no fecker turns up for faster (red) rides which I prefer.

I've had some major changes in my personal life in the past 18 months, but things have settled down now and I'm out every weekend nowadays with SWMBO, but we're generally too lazy to get to get out on the road much before 11am :)

When will you be inviting the North East crew down to your area?;)

Some like to organise, some like to be organised, and some like to do their own thing.

I guess Yorkies tend to fall into the latter ('cos it's cheaper :augie)

More often than not, I ride on my own.
You can please yourself all day and not compromise at all.
But:
Riding with other folk shows you new roads and routes which you would have never found / ridden before.
I am gonna put a run on when I know which weekend I am off work and it will be a turn up, ride for yourself and consider others and that's it.
I have often considered doing more runs posted on here but some people set so many rules and I think, f*ck that.
My world is full of rules and regulations. When I am on my bike I just wanna ride and nothing else.
