I picked up my new RS1200GS from Park Lane in November and it has sat in my garage until now...yes I know..how could just leave it there? Well, I have been ill for 6 weeks, weather has been shite, worried about the thing rusting with a whiff of salt! - so no comments please!
Anyway, went to get on it today (sun shining) and the front tyre was a flat as a flat thing on table mountain. Checked tread, no sign of any penetration, nothing sticking out, valve not leaking either. Back tyre still has right amount in it.
Anybody had similar?
With only 72 miles on the clock I shall be a bit pished if Bharnstormer want to charge me to check it! Brand new bike with a bleeding puncture, not happy.
I can only imagine faulty tube? or are they tubeless?
Any advice would be appreciated other than 'get out on more on it'!:(

Yep................get out more

Take the front wheel out and have it checked by a tyre specialist or your BMW Dealer

If it is a puncture, you'll need a tyre...............more than likely

But could just be a leaky valve

Tubeless tyres mate.

I suggest you inflate your tyre fully & spray water on the tread & see if any air bubbles appear. If not, remove the valve cap & spray some water on the valve, if that's OK next spray where the tyre joins the wheel.

If it's leaking it'll be coming out somewhere.

How closely did you inspect the entire tyre tread for small nails etc.?

The rubber can close over them and give the appearance of just a tiny nick in the rubber, until you use a bradawl or similar item to pick into the rubber and discover the nail within the carcass.

Leave it in the garage, the increase in temperatures as we approach summer will probably re-inflate the tyre for you :thumb2

Well take it back to the shop you bought it from, i'm sure they'd be happy to check out a bike that they'd sold.

Is this a wind up? You're having a giraffe. Have you never experienced a ****in puncture before? Get your ****in butler out to the shed and pump the ****er up and get over it.
72 miles. You've only ridden the ****in thing home and then got scared of it like a lot of new 12GS owners.

It's people like you posting ****in drivel that gives this section a bad name.

"If it is a puncture, you'll need a tyre...............more than likely"

Pardon?

Inflate the tyre, buy one of those cheap plastic long & thin planters from a garden centre, fill with water, leave the wheel on the bike, lower the wheel into the water then slowly spin the wheel around. The bubbles will be apparent. It isn't rocket science.

1. Re-inflate to the correct pressure.

2. Washing up liquid in water "bubble test" ( as previously described) paying close attention to valve/stem area & rim ( may be a porous casting.)

3. Once the leak rate has been established, it "may" be safe for a return trip to the vendor. If leak rate is too fast call AA/RAC or whomever...

4. If you're feeling "Cavalier", fix it yourself....

Thanks for the sensible answers!

Cheers for those willing to help - some useful bits there. The childish replies have been ignored in particular Pikey Dave's intelligent contribution. Perhaps he can do everyone a favour and go swivel and crawl back in his hole. Its actually people like that that give forums a bad name. The issue is here a brand new bike from the showroom with a fault eg a slow puncture! Yes I have had punctures before but not on a bike that has just been wheeled out the showroom! I thought the point of a forum was for people to help each other?
Never mind. All the test suggested has shown no visible leaks and I've been over it will a magnifying glass so its back to BMW to sort this one.

I can just tell, you are going to love it here.

Numb hands and bum from riding it 75 miles home, not a mile since and now no puff in the front tyre. Life's a trial.

its not a brand new bike its done 72 miles they will not change the tyre unless it was punctured at the time of purchase tyres will go down on their own through lack of use all our mowers at work have been parked up since the end over november all but 5 of the 24 have deflated im sure ransomme wont renew them

Sensible answers

Yes, it can be a bit frustrating sometimes when you have a problem and others think its just a joke; IF you can inflate the tyre and it stays up then I would simply run it back to the dealer and say fix it please. As has been suggested a leak test with a paint brush and soapy water will show up any thing still leaking. Taking out the front wheel is an option but i wouldn't bother, particularly if it has ABS. (I had a puncture repaired in situ by a dealer - he assured me that it would be Ok - and in fact it lasted a few thousand kilometres until the tyre was worn out. (Obviously that may not be possible always;)

Sometimes I cant believe what I read.

Do you have a pump? Do you know how to connect it?

Pump the tyre up and leave it overnight. If its still up in the morning, go out and ride. Then take it to your nearest tyre fitter or motorcycle shop, no need to go to a main dealer and especially not a BM dealer for a puncture!!! It might last a week, a month or even three before going flat so not the end of the world.

I expect Bahnstormer would charge you for any work and quite rightly so IMHO. Its not their fault, or the place you bought it. I once left a motorbike shop on a brand new blade, first roundabout I picked up a stanley knife blade. £160 down the toilet but hey ho.

You could always phone BMW assist if you cant pump it up. I hear people call the RAC / AA etc for such trivial matters these days. If you take this option, probably best not to tell anyone on here. :augie

Hope that helps. :beerjug:

I had a puncture on my new Gs with 150 miles on the clock, so not unlike your position. I don't think you have a cat's chance in hell of a new tyre from the dealer!

I would suggest inflating the tyre and see how it is in the morning. If it's still inlfated and rideable, I'd pop to your local bike shop and invest in some ultrseal. Install and ride the bike to seal the puncture.

Good luck with the new bike, and wellcome to the site.

I give in!!

Thanks Brian for again an adult approach to providing some feedback.
Perhaps I didnt word the original post properly but..
I have been riding bikes for 30 years
I have had punctures
I do have a pump
I have pumped it up!
I cannot see where any leak is coming from having sprayed water etc
Perhaps it did occur on the way home from the showroom but all I wanted to know is has anybody else had the same issue with a brand new wheel possibly from an ill fitting tyre or faulty cast wheel? as in 30 years I have never had such air loss without an obvious cause.
If it is that then personally I think that BMW should put it right.
Lets draw an end to this one!
I certainly wont be looking at this thread again.

Whats the point in buying an adventure bike if you leave it in the garage.

Don't know what you mean? The weather has been great

Did you pump it up first before posting on this forum? The tyres on my mountain bike were flat after only 5 weeks of sitting on my balcony. Nothing a good pump up didn't fix. :thumb

Why wouldn't Bharnstormer want to charge you? I would. I'd charge you if you left the garage forecourt. You could have picked up a nail in that 72 miles. The bike is no longer new once you've left the garage and certainly not after 72 miles. It's not their fault.

I say get a grip and use a bit of common sense. :rob pump it up and ride to your local motorbike tyre garage and get them to check it out.

someone please tell me that not all 1200GS riders are like this. This is worse than Ewan and Charley. Help, Help... where's the support team... Russ Russ...

You're wasting your time.
He says he's not coming back to this post.

Probably on to Inflatable Dolls Inc. customer services demanding to know why Mitzi went flat and spat at him with only 75 ****s on the clock.

Why does the 1200 attract the type of bloke who buys brown nylon slacks then complain like **** on the Internet when they get their dick caught in the zip.

I hope he'd appreciate my more mature attitude.
