Hi All

I already have a full set of Vario Paniers and top box, but I fancy getting a smaller top box to leave on the bike all the time for one day rides from home. Just something big enough to fit my waterproofs, a drink etc. I know I could use a saddle bag, but I like the security of a fixed top box, plus it allows me to take a pillion if required. Any recommendations?

Cheers,

I always use a Peli case, pick whatever size you want. Even converted that on the F800GS to utilise a second hand lock from a BMW pannier, with the lock re-coded :thumby:

Plenty of tailbag options for what you need, and they're cheaper (usually) than a new topbox + fitting kit.

i use one like this. It easily fits my waterproofs, snacks, a lock etc. It's quick & easy to install or remove it, and take with you when parking the Bike up. Plus the way it fits to the Bike works with most luggage racks, whether it's BMW OEM, or aftermarket.

Yeah after looking around, I think its gonna have to be something like a tail pack/bag

Plenty of 45ltr top boxes on eBay from about £38 with mounting plates.
Some that are around £70 have padded back rests and are fully lined.

I have one on my scooter. It cost around £70. It’s perfect for the job.

As a comparison. The BMW Topbox with two locks and no mount or padded backrest is over £500.

Always used to bolt a pelican case on the bike before. However, there about £100. Then you need to solid mount it with stainless steel bolts, nuts and washers. Plus get a padlock or two.

You can get a back rest and handle for it as well.

It's a great box.

That pelicase is still doing the job on my 690 enduro. Base is a bit like a colander after being fitted to your F800, a 1200GS, T7, a 790 enduro and now the 690.
The bmw barrel doesn’t like getting dirty so I removed it.

The 30 litre box for the RS and XR will fit the GS vario mounting plate.
Big enough to fit a helmet inside but not as big and numb as the vario box.
The lock can be reset to use your bike’s ignition key.

Pic below to show the type of box. Box is for sale if you’re interested.

Thanks Steve. If the box was black I would of been interested in that. I have a triple black GS and not sure the silver box would look right. Handy to know that they fit the GS though 👍🏼

No worries.
It looks more silvery and shiny in the pics- in the flesh it’s a Matt/satin finish and more grey than silver. The lids on these are double skinned and the outer cover can be replaced with a choice of colours - white , red , black or this grey colour.
My RS is Light White so I went with a contrast and put black luggage on it.
