Good news for all you Quest 1 owners - me included :rob

Just installed CNv9 and note that the tiles are much smaller than CNv8 - great news for those on European expedition's this summer :) as it means you do not have to include so much data around the route to your destination. Now the whole trip to the Dolomites and back, including the surrounding area, fits on the Quest with space to spare. Well chuffed, particularly as the upgrade came free :) :)

That's really heartening, I made enquiries to Garmin about the map tile issue when used on a Quest last year and got the following response:
Unfortunately our units cannot, for obvious reasons, be entirely future proof. The movement of technology and advances in electronics and GPS systems means that some of our units that have small non-expandable memories will have a reduced use of the mapping and routing software as unlike the older versions it may not be possible to get the perfect area on the unit.

As this is just a symptom of the progression of this type of software and technology we cannot produce an update with smaller tiles

Big it up for Garmin for listening to their customers.

Even though I've now got my update disk I won't be upgrading for a while as funds have other priorities at the moment. Can you please do a screen grab from Mapsource to show the tile sizes? How does it compare, in terms of tile size, to v7 if you had that?
