Well, it's about time I upgraded my 1990's BrickPhone to something more useful and able to take advantage of the contemporary facilities available such as access to one's emails and the occasional gander at a website. :type

It's unlikely I'll be surfing the net alot but would like to able to freely use my email account, look here from time to time when away from the desk, perhaps send a picture somewhere when necessary and most importantly, find information about something when away from the study. :reynolds

So, how much data allowance should I go for with a new, as yet undecided, monthly package?

I have seen 250MB, 500MB and 1GB allowances, as well as unlimited but wondered if anyone here knows what volume of data gets passed around when these devices are used by a relatively thoughtful adult user rather than a teenage techo addict who looks at their handset every 45 seconds to check that the world is still there.

This is just the question I asked a few months ago prior to getting an iphone.
I've now had the iphone for a couple of months and have 500mb as my monthly data limit.
I use email each day, via gmail, access ukgser via tapatalk, facebook and other websites as well as google search, all on a daily basis.

I use nowhere near as much as a teenage phone addict but I still find that 500mb is plenty for me.
Vodafone have an app which shows you the current data useage and I never go over 350mb per month.

Incidenatly, if you use wifi then this doesn't count towards the data useage anyway

1gb I use on my iPhone.... Should be plenty 500mb not enough IMHO

I have 500mb... but when at home my phone goes on my Wifi... and the same at work so I use nearly nothing.

Really depends if you can get on peoples WiFi where you work or at home.. if you can then the usage drops

Depends where you will use your phone. I have BT broadband and that gives me free access to the BT Openzone hot spots. In addition a free subscription to the Cloud service gives free broadband in McDonalds, Wetherspoons and others.

I often have breakfast at work in a Wetherspoons (cheaper than the subsidised canteen and better) and their free broadband is fast enough to watch TV on my Ipad. Lunch in Marks and Spencer picks up the broadband from McDonalds next door. Openzone comes into play in Starbucks and lots of others. Don't do anything data heavy until you are in range of a free service and 500Mb is more than enough.

Why not start off without a 3g data plan and just use WiFi. A month on I have found no need yet for data ('tho it is available from O2 for a max of £1/day if required)

Thank You All. :beerjug:

That has probably answered my question and I will now pursue a 500MB deal.

Just a note to Kritou: Sometimes, in fact often, I'm not in range of WiFi and if yer stuck with yer bike (the only reason I had a mobile phone in the first place) and want to know something it's good to drop in here or Google your friends. :thumb
