Anyone else have this problem , has done it from new , but the other day , it smoked like a steam train on start up , it did clear after a few secs but the cloud of oil smoke was big.
I left it on the side stand for about 10 days , as the garage was full of other bikes being prepped for an IOM ride out.
Local mechanic said that he has noticed quite a few doing this , but BM say its normal , sound a load of bollocks to me.
Bike Nov 2016 R1200 Gs , now done 1400 miles.
Do I test ride the KTM 1290 S , as I have a couple of KTMs and they are bullet proof ( Enduro bikes)

Put your hand against the smoke and then smell your hand. If it smells of oil/fuel then you have a problem. Usually though it is the water condesnsation just being blown out nothing to worry about.

Sounds pretty normal to me.
All my beemers tend to smoke if left on side stand more so the longer they are left like that.
:friday

Happened to me once many years ago on my 06 GSA after 30 mins of being parked on the side stand. If you think about it. It makes perfect sense that oil could leak past the rings and in to the combustion chamber when parked up this way as the left pot is lower than the oil level in the engine

Not unusual for a Boxer which has been left on the side stand.

I leave mine on its side stand all the time and it's never done it.

I agree. Let's be sure what we are talking about first. At 1400 miles you are barely run in, so I suspect you are worrying over nothing much. Indeed a good run & an Italian tune up will probably sort you out.

If we are talking significant oil smoke, then, I have seen these symptoms on other bikes - one was a valve guide seal, one was a cracked oil ring & one I never was sure, but the 3 ring gaps were together, not spaced evenly around the piston - the oil control ring got jammed up with burnt oil - a new set of rings sorted it. BMW have had piston ringlands failures on the K16 range, but not with the GS as far as I am aware.

If in doubt, report formally as a possible concern under warranty & speak to BMW CS direct if you feel you are not being treated seriously at dealer level.

Thanks for all the replies .
Not condensation as its a cloud rather than a stream.
Does smell of both oil and fuel .
Smoke lingers after its put out.
Agree its still new so will try over the next few weeks to monitor.
For the record its done it when its been on the centre stand as well as was away for a week with the grandkids came back and chuff chuff.
Oh well lets see if I can do another engine no:6 bikes 3

I'd try another bmw dealer mate they do vary considerably might as well if its on warranty
