Snapped driveshaft - Ever happen to you ?

It's a no brainer then!

The height differences on both ends of swingarm were too big to handle for those particular UJs.

I reckon HPN fits different lenght shaft/or different UJs if they use the R1100GS swingarm on different rallye bikes that have suspension travel more than 250mm, thus the heigh difference variation is HUGE in GS-terms and probably stock shaft lenght+UJs aren't ment to handle such angles? :nenau

I kept asking the question about fitting ADV shocks to a std 1150, cos I was afraid of the same thing, got dutifully ignored:D:D

I've got Ohlins fitted to my standard GS which are just as high as ADV shocks, as i'm sure have hundreds of others without any problems.

Ta, all I was asking, just that there are a thousund lowering posts not so many raising ones:D

I’ve had the rubber absorber disintegrate on a shaft at about 40,000 miles. No warning just lack of drive when pulling away from some lights. Lots of caviar looking black rubber balls in the swing arm. Just about managed to limp the bike back home very slowly – i.e 10mph. Thought the clutch had gone until the final drive came off.

Don’t think they like wheelies or traffic light drag races…

Found the old one heres the foto's

It has the later type of shaft with the splines indexed so it can only be inserted in one position.

It has wilber shocks fitted and the ride height is even higher than a standard ADV. Perhaps the articulation was too much for the shaft U/J :nenau

I was thinking about fitting a 5mm longer rear shock to my ADV but wondered about the DS/UJ articulation. How much longer than the stock ADV shock was the unit on this bike?

Totally standard rear suspension and shaft to CV joint failed on me at around 56k miles, made a mess of the housing but the gearbox output was fine.

A nice terrencially wet skid from 75 to the hard shoulder and a fresh pair of knickers for me. That said had I been in the middle or fast lane I would have needed more than new knickers!

Got a whole rear end from Glenn (still has a gearbox and twinspare engine up for grabs), a very nice member of this parish over in Lancashire and fitted this weekend.

Did a few miles before popping a minger or 2 to check its all home and solid. I hope this one does 200k abusive miles like other members on this forum have reported before failure!
