snapped exhaust studs

1100 or 1150 ?

The 1150 two stud heads are easier to get the studs out. The three stud heads are a bastard.

Just removed two 1150RT heads ( 1150 RT's have three studs) and had them machined out and timeserts fitted. That's six studs, all for £70.
Worked out cheaper for me to pay the engineering shop than drill them out and fit the inserts myself. :D

Take it to Steptoe, I had 4 snap on my r1100rs and parted with £140 of my hard earned to have the studs removed and the bolt holes helicoiled!

Find a skilled old fella in a shed with loads of milling, drilling, latheing kit, give him £70 and let him get on with it. At least that's what I did.

Mine is in Woking. Mikeyboy has one as well, but not so old. Steptoe too. I can drop you details but he's the kind of fella that you need to deal with face to face rather than by post.

I have used girders in Airdrie for exhaust studs on a VFR400 which WAS a real B@@!!! because of restricted access - at least a bit closer
