Snapped screen adjuster knob

Managed to snap the screen adjuster knob yesterday. Anyone know if its fixable or is it a complete unit?

According to realoem.com it comes as a complete unit.

Perhaps MotorWorks or MotoBins may have a used one where you may pick the required parts.

Is it likely to be covered under warranty or is brute force excluded.
Think I may purchase the Cymark supports as a short term fix for now.

Depends how you describe "brute force"

I sneezed and it fell off...

I was doing pull ups on the adjuster knob....

Or somewhere in the middle?

The screen hadn't adjust to the fully up position so I applied a bit more torque. I was surprised that the mechanism is all plastic, would have expected the knob to be fitted to a metal rod.

Complete unit. I managed to snap mine off when trying to adjust it at 80mph!

My dealer at the time managed to swing it under warranty, as they are a decent bunch.

Lots of complaints about knob coming off when driving at motorway speed and trying to adjust screen, apparently wind pressure problem, so I reckon if you forget the word forced, and just said adjusting normally, you would probably get good will.

Ill maybe have a look at the warranty route. Not had the bike long, and it wasn't from my local dealer so not sure how accommodating they might be. Might drop BMW a line.

There was a guy on one of the facebook GS groups selling an electric conversion... But that wouldn't work with any of the after-market "steadying brackets".

The Puig one as it doesn't clamp, maybe it would work with that?

Well this is the broken part, made of plastic. I might see if I can file some if the meat off the collar which may give me a bit of extra shaft to play with although it would restrict some of the movement. Anyone know how easy it would be to knock something like this up on a lathe or would 3D printing be an option?.

3D printer would do the job fine

Try to print it with carbon-fiber re-enforced material. That is way stronger than regular plastics like ABS.

Take the pins out -

And refit the broken bits

But use epoxy or similar and rejoin them

B&Q does brass tube in one of its moulding aisles - Sleeve it and fit it into the handle / drill & pin (glue) to keep in place

I ordered a second hand one. Ill save repairing it until the winter.
