Cholera, sometimes known as Asiatic cholera or epidemic cholera, is an infectious gastroenteritis caused by the bacterium Vibrio cholerae.<sup id="cite_ref-RyanKJ_0-0" class="reference">[1]</sup><sup id="cite_ref-FaruqueNair_1-0" class="reference">[2]</sup> Transmission to humans occurs through the process of ingesting contaminated water or food.
