So, in summing up, 'Y' piece plus standard can the way to go ?

I'm new to these modern bikes :D
I have a 2004 single spark R1150R and have given her a jolly good servicing ( hate the
servo brakes though :comfort ). All sorted except silencer set-up etc. Currently has the standard silencer on and an unknown 'Y' but this set-up pops and farts occasionally on the over run etc but runs lovely. Now before I take it off and re-fit with exhaust paste etc...do they all pop and fart anyway as a matter of course ?
I have a new OE CAT so could easily go back to the set up as the R1150R left the factory, standard everything.........just need a few pointers before I operate on the beast over the weekend ( I haven't got a stubby etc )...did a search and lot's of variations from the good old days came up :D
Just asking like :thumb2

OEM headers + a Stubby (available on eBay) is the way forward. Ran my 1150 like that for seven years; no issues.

Did the Standard cat and silencer, y piece and Remus can and y piece and standard can thing on my r1150gs, best compromise is the y piece and standard can and yes they all pop and fart on , a lot more than the standard set up and a lot less than the Y piece and race can

After running 1150GSs for 18 yrs I've tried everything and settled on using the CAT with a stubby.

Great sound with no popping at all, more grunt and no silencer to clean etc. etc. etc.

nother vote for cat and stubby. :thumb2

and when you feel the weight of the silencer you will know why

Y piece and standard can 1150 gsa pop!pop!pop!....
Re fitted cat. Just as sweet and no popping.

With John the Greek's bespoke performance chip - about a hundred snoojits or less - and by losing the 15kg weight of the OEM catalysator in favour of the Y-piece, using the standard end-can, you'll have the most noticeable increase in mid-range power, a tiny increase in fuel consumption but more reliable and smoother running all across the rev range that you could wish for, with no overrun unburnt fuel-popping at all.

Even with the untouched OEM chip inside the ECU, the combination of the y-piece and the standard end-can is an improvement in grunt, albeit with a certain amount of unburnt fuel passing through into the hot end-can, causing the popping that some people object to on the overrun. Doesn't bother me on my Rockster though.
