Oh I meant to say, why wouldn`t you have confidence in a manufacturer repaired engine???

The chance of BMW relacing the bike is about 0% and they will try to repair it no matter what the cost to them.

absolutely agree - that's why BWM spend soo much money running factory training courses and having 'approved technicians' affiliated to their dealerships. - so they can do exactly this sort of thing easily.

I would fully expect these mechs could strip and rebuild an engine without batting an eyelid - its not rocket science.

I had to attend the kawasaki factory course on turbo and injection systems and Honda V-four Engines - and stripped and rebuilt them in a day - learning all the intricasies and using the correct procedures and proper factory tools.

Doing things all day long - every day makes it become the norm.

... :clap

... It gives me greater confidence in the boxer knowing that it can be rebuilt.

... Sadly modern builds mean more and more special tools are needed, making it more difficult to do so much home spannering, but even then the knowledge and facility seeps out eventually

I used to work on ERFs' and we sold 30 trucks to a petrol company working out of Buncefield.

The fuel injectors started going out of synch and it turned out to be the hardening coming off a batch of cams.

No way would they accept a new cam - obviously the crap had gone everywhere.

So it was new engines.

Of course the management promised them for the next day and the bare engines took a week to arrive......:spitfire

When the muppet techs have trouble putting the panels back on the bike correctly, i doubt i would have much confidence in the engine being rebiult correctly either.

If the engine was returned to the BMW factory for repair, I would then agree with you:thumb2

I will just have to wait and see. I have to admit, I am slightly concerned. Hopefully it will be really good or really bad. I don't want an in between, "well, it's not quite right you know? Can't quite put my finger on it..." if you know what I mean.

Funny you should say that.

Having paid £450+ for a service, I had to re-attach the fairing on my K1200GT !

Hopefully my 1150 GSA is easier to work on.

My bike has also disintergrated
1 year out of warranty
has destroyed crank pistons being replaced by bmw at the moment 12,000 miles on clock 1 year out of warranty for a nominal fee of £350.00 for complete engine

Nothing very nominal about £350, it's 'kin steep!

I blew an engine on a K1200s which was only 9 months old.. after a bit of foot stamping and using words like solicitor and public court case.. bmw gave me a brand new bike..

They weren't happy about it but when I started coming up with photos of other bikes having done the same thing and suggested that this is a fault they were aware of and weren't doing anything about... their attitude changed.

Mine blew a hole the size of your fist on the right hand crank case while travelling at about 80mph... made the next corner interesting with all that oil on the back wheel...
