So my RT has lost £5k in 11 months!

£5k .....the blokes having his trousers pulled down in a year old bike

They're pulling his pisser......royally

But it's what dealers do in 2014 with all those overheads

Money, money, money ....... :blast

Good man :thumb:JB

Na ,kept the old bike as well as the new one, will sell it private next spring for at least £2000 more than the part ex offer , or the 64 plater might be going, it is a major disappointment
Nice touch

£2k uplift in it for the dealer

The price of a second-hand bike is surely pegged at what the average person is expecting as a reduction over buying new?

The bike could be cheaper than new, by anywhere between £2k and £6k.............. How can that be VAT which is a fixed rate?

Al

Indeed. It's got FA to do with tax.

Erm You lost the thick end of three grand when you rode out of the dealers on day one Courtesy of the tax man

I have heard this reasoning used before when trying to quantify the heavy first year depreciation on any motor vehicle and I just can't see how it makes any difference. The on the road price of a vehicle is made up of a number of factors including as "bisbee" says, tax. However, the value of the vehicle when it is sold for the second time depends on just what someone will pay for it. There are times when a vehicle is sold for more than the original first sale price such as when in short supply. The fact that a good portion of the original price was tax makes no difference to what you will be offered by a dealer or anyone else if you want to sell it to.

Went to trade my 12GS in at two years old with 12k on the clock to the same dealer who spouted how well they hold their value when I was buying it. Stealer offered me £5k and wanted all the extras left on (£10,100 new with approx £2k of farkles). Kept it another two and a half years and sold it privately for £5500 and made another £1500 back on the farkles.

Didn't think the RT would loose so much value, but when I walked into a main dealer and asked about a new LE with all the bells and whistles, he offered me £9k for my 2013 R1200RT SE with dynamic pack, audio and TPM.

That is a whole lot of depreciation, and as you can imagine, means I'll be sticking with the 2013 model for a while yet.

There is nothing wrong with my current bike, just curious about the LE's and thought that the temporary lull in sales might be something they wanted to try and help with an incentive.

They say no deals on new bikes RTs but in the US they are giving a Navigator 5 away with any new RT taken in 2014.

Shame really as I would have been happy to buy a new model there and then!

If there are any enterprising dealers out there, please PM me!

I was offered £8,150 for my 2012 rt se today. This was a trader. My bike has 7.5k on the clock. All packs aside radio.

Dealer wouldn't take it as he has a couple of Rt's in stock.

This dealer does however have a few 2014 LE's coming with minimum miles (100's). Douglas park in East Kilbride.

Keeping my bike for now.

I can see me keeping the 2013 for around four years, it's a lovely bike and by then the current model will be well sorted.

It's a shame when the depreciation is so much, and it underlines what a load of cr@p salespeople at BMW talk when they mention excellent resale value.

Next time I go into but a BMW it will be wish cash and no trade in. I now put the sales teams around the same level as other trusted professions such as Estate Agents and Merchant Bankers, but with the same contractual obligations as the old copier contracts in the 80's.

I took my (May) 2013 bike (will have 10,000 miles on after I come back from Picos next week) in on Saturday to Fairbairns Inverness, only have 1 RT a 2007 in used stock. he has a lightly used WCRT for sale. He says it's a good time to buy and they'll give me a good trade in for which I am waiting for his email.

I'll let you know the outcome.

Got told roughly the same with my gs toilet, lowered, wire wheels te all the toys, took it in for its 6.k service , and i said go on then how much to swap it for a 14 adventure , he said 9 and wanted another 6k,:censor::eh
looks like im keeping mine , Now if i could only get a thinner seat at the front and have more of my feet on the ground with the rt , i would have one in a heart beat

Here is Fairbairns offer for my 2013 RT with everything except audio. it will have about 10k miles after I get back from Spain in two weeks.

As per our conversation on Saturday please find attached quotation based on our RT LE Demonstrator which has 730 miles and as a comparison a new RT SE.
The Demo bike has Dynamic Package and Audio system and retailed at £16980 new, we would sell the bike for £14500 and give you £9500 for your bike as a part exchange.

I traded my 2012RT SE with audio for a new 14RT LE with all options bar top box but including radio
Got 10k for mine and had to find 6.8k

Williams of manc offered me 11 for my RT if I took one of their stock bikes in Ebony, want a grey one though.

My 2013 has everything inc audio and anti theft, Corby trouser press, ashtray, chocolate fire guard etc...

I would love an RT, but don't want to walk into a dealer to find out my TC 2010 GSA with 24k miles is worth peanuts. It runs so well I may well keep it for a while.... :thumb

This is the usual story, you take the biggest hit within 2 years from new. Probably the best option is to buy a lightlly used one and keep it for a few years although having a new bike is always great I know! :beerjug:

A couple more questions before I go into meltdown.

BMW web prices say on the road prices but when dealer does a quote it seems to be double the cost? (The OTR)

Also have prices changed recently? The price on quote for bike is not the same as the web.

Finally am I right in thinking that you cannot get the new RT LE in any other colour than metallic? If so why is it listed as a separate line item on the quote?

I'm soooooo confused....

Have you tried Allan Jeffries in Shipley - they saved us over £1,000 on a deal for wifeys K12R Sport compared to the arrogant meat head at SSB.

I hear consistently good feedback on pricing and service at Jeffries - get other prices and then give them a call.

Another vote here for Allan Jefferies, bought the last 4 bikes from them. Their service is second to none! A good old fashioned honest company which is rare these days.

Placed the order with Coopers in Kent today.

Chris gave a good deal on a grey LE with loads of extras.

Not too happy with their service, but they are the nearest.
