So my RT has lost £5k in 11 months!

£9K in 2005 is £12055 now, according to this inflation calculator: http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/...tion-calculator-value-money-changed-1900.html

So prices haven't really gone up all that much considering the extra technology.

You pay an extra £3k for the extra gizmos though, the base WC GSA is £12500

BMW is just 'profit engineering '

My point wasn't do much about price rise of the GSA - it has risen in line with other stuff

It was more about wage rises which haven't kept up & because of RPI have really gone backwards - which a big difference in real terms - just the British public can't see it & just borrow more to cover the deficit to facilitate their spending :)

Trippy, maybe you would like to revisit your comments and not name call people who are only doing what you say you would do i.e. spend their own money how they want.

The insight into your poor attitude to people spending money with you would also bear a rethink.

Well maybe twatish was a bit strong if it is your money but I honestly can't imagine spending that sort of money on a bike, just look what your getting for your cash. Twatish however does fit when your walking into a dealer and renting a bike over a period of years only then to get shafted at the end of the contract and you next want to trade up. . . oh and then they come on here and moan. BMW are in the business of making as much money as possible and will continue to take as much of yours as you allow them to, why wouldn't they?

There's a lot to be said for only riding what you can afford to pay for cash.

Both points bang on... :thumb2

Some people are paying £7k to swap from a 2013 bike to a 2014 - which is a hefty chunk in anybody's mind and getting a bit silly - the dealers must be thinking Christmas has come early

People are losing more money changing from one bike to another than i've ever spent buying any bike.

Economic madness. But good for someone else further down the line :D

I haven't had a bike for a while now but may well get another next year depending on a couple of things, but I never lost any money on any of the bikes I bought and sold in the last ten years.

In Wivey on Saturday there were two bikes that caught my eye when I walked up to the farmers market. One was a brand new 1200 Adventure and a guy who must have been wearing over £1500 worth of kit and the other was a lovely old R80/7 with old plastic panniers and a rider sat outside the cafe in old leather jacket, jeans and walking boots. One looked chilled, relaxed and happy, the other just looked a tad silly to be honest.

And there you have it ;)

I can see a few people are sniffy about new bikes and riders with expensive gear, and that is entirely OK we are all allowed our own opinion. I am just happy to have the ability to buy a new bike and gear that I wish to purchase.

It may be that I am happy to spend my money (in cash) on whatever I wish to, and I don't make a habit of calling any other riders twats or twat-ish or even inferring that their appearance is cool or silly, just because they ride or look or are different to me.

I am also happy to help BMW by purchasing new vehicles from them (and many other manufacturers over the years) I don't care if my perceived value for money is not the same as yours, and I also don't care that in a few years some other people on this forum will be riding bikes that I once purchased new when they appear in the used market place.

So does this make me a twat ? (well I suppose in the eyes of some it does) but I really don't care, if it keeps you going to be all negative then go right ahead and enjoy. I support your decision to buy what you can afford and loose/make money or whatever. I don't even care that you don't support my lifestyle and choices, but why not try to post more positive things. Those that buy new bikes keep the industry alive so others can then get second hand units, and both buyers get to enjoy a lovely bike.

For myself, Ive had some life changing events that mean I want to enjoy what I consider to be nice, and when I want them, if that's a new bike, then Im going to do it.

You're correct, of course............ Everyone has their priorities and justifications.

As you say - if no-one bought new, the industry would collapse.

Well said Wobble, and eloquently put. I have to call it 'allowing for differentiation' at work, and actively encourage the students to do the same.

While ever the Manufacturer are bringing out newer 'updated' models, consumers will hunger after the latest thing, I think they call it consumerism? If people are happy paying, and can justify the expense, why shouldn't they buy new? I'm happy to be slightly stung by the dealer, I have had good service from them, this is my 4th new bike (2015 RT) in less than 4 years, I have shopped round in the past, but quite frankly, I can't be bothered any more... I'd rather be out riding!:bounce1:

You really ought not take this place so seriously, it's bad for your health. :D

just a short reply calling Trippy a twat (like everyone else does) would have sufficed.

Kill the motors dudes, I'm not a serious person.

I absolutely respect the views of all those who post here and my comments are not intended as judgment or inference, and I don't like to take anything in life seriously apart from life itself.

Of all the forums I lurk or contribute to, this is amongst the best, (apart from the conservative MPs Anne Summers appreciation forum).

I wish I could get a GS as well as an RT and I suppose I could if I got two second hand ones, but I only have room for one at the moment, and that's a New RT.
