I've read that the Aprilia Caponard is an underated bike, that's going cheap new, as well.

i had a look at the Capo-nord before i bought my 1200GS... they are a bargain for sure, £5999 gets you a brand new one on the road. it has the ABS as standard for that much. its got the very nice "prilly" V-twin motor too. £3 - 3500 gets you a 2/3 year low mileage used bike.

BUT

its a bit rough round the edges and very "plasticky" round the cockpit and fairing, a good bike spoiled by a bit too much penny pinching, a great bike if you are on a budget!... me thinks

Had a TDM before my GS, another cracking all-rounder
Now thats a bike that fell out of the ugly tree and was ignored by the UK bike press!

"How much"

Ditto the above. However I found the plasticky clocks easy to read and a fuel gauge which was spot on for useage. Only downside I had was it was hellish heavy on front brake pads, mine went at less than 5000 miles, and I'm no demon alte braker. For the money though they're a bloody good buy.

In your shoes, I'd be tempted by the Guzzi Breva or Griso 1100s.

But if it were me, I'd probably be thinking about the KTM.

Have you also considered the R1200RT? It won the Ride mag test recently and seems to be rated as better than the K1200GT.

If I was going to get another BMW I think I would get the GS. The KTM is likely to be too tall and too hard core for me but I will be going to have a look.

At the moment it looks like a toss up between a Guzzi and the V Stom. Character versus reliability.
