ok have started taking the gs apart. have take off, oil dropped, filter changed and crash bars off

res tnuts are all soaking in easing oil as salt and corrosion has seized all the parts in.

i have to yet get the broken sump guard bolts and fix the guard as the original one was damaged/lost and some alu plate just tex screwed into another plate so need sort that out

so now the questions:

1 - how to best remove brokemsum bolts as awkward get drill under it to drill themout.

2 - seized cyl head guards

3 - any other items i should do/look for while have bike apart

going paint engine, replace sight glass, fit hid kit, hid spots, make a heavy duty bach plate and centre stand guard. service with k&n filter etc.

have try remove exhaust as all nuts rusted together

so what else would you do while ere?

Bolt removal

Get a small pair of steelsons (6" size ) these will get a good grip and not let go just the job.

might try that but didnt think they have that much grip on the

cheers.

was also thinking when have back together and before put oil into it, just lay it on it side and eb able drill them out but hate drilling bolts out

Good quality (i.e. with sharp teeth) mole grips work too - grab the bolt around the edge of the big washer that was once bonded to the rubber bit.

Worked for me.

will give that ago too. hopefully now will work

no washer on rubber as all gone off it. ah all part of the fun

Removal

We have all done this, the steelsons will grip no prob just grip tighter and tighter, put the new ones back with copper slip, it works next time all will be well.

The two frames (front frame and rear subframe) are the bike. They bolt to the engine / gearbox and carry the front and rear upper shock mounts, forks etc - there's no separate frame carrying the engine.

You can remove them (one at a time) if you support the relevant end which has lost its wheel / suspension (ideally by tying it to a beam or something above.

The swingarm can be removed by removing the final drive, then the swingarm. You'll need heat to remove the FD and swingarm pivot pinions (to soften the loctite). I've done this a couple of times to get to a leaking gearbox output seal: http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=180313

good luck

ok so subframe stays where it is so and same as the front section

wasnt sure so best to ask. taught might get away with the sub but kinda new front was a no go area
