Socket sets

Evening, all. Looking for a solid recommendation.
There are many threads on here re socket sets and tools, but they all seem to link or refer to suppliers but not to specific sets/collections.

No definitive or "use this set" approach seems evident.
I am looking to get a torx socket set (have the halfords pro range socket set for normal stuff) but it does not have the torxs sockets. Too many choices. Want a decent set (draper/teng/along those lines)
you need type link, so I don't waste money getting just another tool for the shed...

Looking to do my discs and brakes this week so want to purchase asap. Please could someone send me a definitive - "buy this set, it has all the sockets you need. Do I need the E types as well? Will I be better off getting some that are 3/8 and some that are 1/2 inch? Are they okay if all are 1/2 inch? T Want a decent set (draper/teng/along those lines)

i got a torx set from machine mart, about 20 pieces incl sockets and keys, I think it was about £40, prob not as good as professional stuff but for what i do its been fine, this was enough to remove the rear disc but i did then find out that a long reach torx key of the correct size is best as you have to access each fasteners in turn thru a cut out in the final drive, without it you are going in at an angle which is never good

i also bought a set of torx ring spanners, cheapos from amazon but again for a few lights small/low torque jobs they have been ok

yeah, just browsing MM now. Some good sets but it seems one does this, other set does that bla bls etc. They have a branch in Twickenham. Will pop in there tomorrow after work. Yes I know about the need for a long one...trying to cover all bases too. Cheers.

The Machine Mart set is about £27 IIRC, its the same product as my "Draper Expert" set in a metal case, with a full set of stubby and long Torx bits plus a 3/8" and 1/2" square drive bit holder. It also has regular metric Hex sizes and star point splined drive bits.

I've never needed any other Torx kit for maintaining the GS. I also have a set of E sockets on a rail, also reasonably priced from machine Mart.

My Halfords torx sockets in 3/8" square drive cost £15.

My Torx male bits (no-name Yobbo brand) came from the local tool shop. They seem to be well up to anything I need on the GS. They are in an unbranded plastic case with 5 short series, 5 long and a 3/8" sq drive holder.

Nothing flash but they do the job for DIY stuff.

No problem with the sockets or anything else in the set.

OK, its £60 but it covers everything you will need including the long set needed for the rear disc.

I do all my own routine servicing with it and a recent clutch swap. No problem at all and 100% lifetime guarantee.

Teng, you break it ,they replace it,never had a problem with any of they're gear and they're torx set is quite good. Proxxon do a good set i think nippy sells them but I picked up the same set for £35 online.

The ratchets are really fine toothed so great for tight spaces. It only has a 10 year guarantee but I reckon if it isn't broken by that time it never will.

First you post a pathetic thread asking if you can cancel an appointment at a dealer, booked to have your disks sorted out.

Then you engage Steptoe in banter about doing the job for you to save a few quid.

In between you forget (as you are incredibly stupid) to tell us that you have left your bike at the dealer's and are probably worrying about getting it back.

@ Wapping Was wondering when you'd wade in with some mellifluous post.. ...actually I have spoken to steptoe, am buying my parts from him this morning and want to fit it myself purely so that I can learn. Maybe then I can become a real GS'er like you...one day.
