Soft luggage braces

Guys/Gals, I’m a bit of an inventor (for those that don’t know me - several do and know what I do) being lucky enough to have some serious manufacturing assets at my disposal (including industrial lasers).

I sometimes ask for (constructive) suggestions or opinions to make the best thing I can as I often see the ‘big boys’ ride roughshod over us, the bikers themselves, and produce stuff that we are rarely consulted about (I know it’s the way of the world).

Long story short - I’m looking to use soft panniers on my new 13 as a change to the OEM hard ones (at my age I’m looking to keep the bike as svelte and light as possible yet still tour).

The thing is that, with me and my panniers, when loaded they tend to swing in so I’ve come up with some simple plates that seem to keep them from doing so.

I do realise that there are excellent panniers on the market far better than mine that don’t swing in but I’m trying to use what I’ve got.

I’m yet to add a brace rod across the back to stop flex but if anyone can suggest any further good ideas I’d be (as I’ve always been) very respectful and keen to listen!

Hi Mark. This is a good product, not dissimilar to Adventure Spec, although they don't make them for BMW. Where i think there is a gap in the market is for a smaller version for dirt bikes. If you could supply the appropriate spacers for Honda CRF's (not the CRf250&300l as they are catered for), Yamaha WR's, KTM EXC's etc etc, then I think you may have a large prospect base. Enduristan and Kreiga make small panniers for dirt bikes, which could use the extra reassurance your product would give.

Yamaha offers one that might be adaptable. A small receiver mounts on the frame/footpeg bracket into which a removable rod or stay inserts for when panniers are used. I had them on my FJ-09. Blaze offers a similar setup which I have on my CB1100. I like that it's not noticeable on the bike with the stays removed.

I have WR250R. I imported hard panniers and racks for it from America but it's SORNED at the moment so if it helps you're welcome to borrow it for a few days to see what measurements/adaptations you might need. I'm south of Lincoln so not a million miles away from you.

Ah that’s very handy thank you - I’m absolutely hanging out my backside at the moment trying to get a big order made for Nippy Norman however mebbe sometime in the future?

Why a full size plate? Just the outer ring might do the same job. Less metal. Strap similar to a rok strap (wider luggage type belt?) running from lowest horizontal bar around and up to top bar over pannier, in effect strapping it to pannier rectangular frame?

Good idea but to offer the same strength I had to thicken up the material - not a bad thing but it cost more to purchase and laser profile

Your mods could be a good plan. We saw the 1300 today and it looks good, but soft luggage mounting could be a be a problem.

We use Mosko Moto and it needs something to hold it off the bike and the zorst. Doesn’t flap about as it braces to the footpegs.
