Just had a mild off on my 2007 GS, first one in 10 years (must be getting old!). I was doing about 2mph and overbalanced after using too much front brake.

But bloody hell! The impact almost gouged a hole in the right-hand rocker cover. What are these things made of, chocolate?

Last time I fell off was on a 2000 1150GS, going considerably quicker, and it merely grazed the rocker cover which was just made of ordinary alloy, not 'magnesium' like the current ones. Presumably if that happened on my present bike it would be game over with a gaping hole pumping out engine oil making it impossible to ride on.

Sorry to read about your incident.

We (I) crashed in the South of France a couple of years ago, luckily we had Hepco & Becker crash bars which saved our holiday.

The casings are too vulnerable and any protection has got to help.

Previous owner of my bike had the bike kicked onto its side when stationery in a road rage incident . A simple drop and the rocker head cover cracked slightly; enough to :monkeypiz a fine mist of engine oil when at operating temperature.

Touratech cylinder head protectors taken off my old bike and fitted to avoid future problems.

Laid mine down on right hand side today for the first time while cocking up a 3 point turn on a main road. Somehow I got out from underneath it before it landed. Picked it up quickly. Fokk, it's heavy.

1 bent hand guard
1 mirror knocked out of place
1 scuffed bumwee crash bar
1 scuffed plastic head guard
1 small mark on pillion peg
maybe 1 small mark on top box

Adds character :blast

Carried on with the run.
