Soft southern shandy drinkers…. Camping Friday 21 and Saturday 22 February 2025

I am a little concerned that we still don't have anyone bringing the actual shandy....

However, thanks for the updates, I will get our food choices sent to the pub. We are a slightly larger group - they may well split us over 2 tables now, but I am sure we can live with that.

Are we still up for the tank museum on Saturday? Sounds like a decent kind of venue for our crowd.

Then on Saturday afternoon... a small matter of the Calcutta Cup, for those disposed to rugby. There are plenty of pubs in Lymington and the Chequers may well accommodate us too. Easier as it's on terrestrial. Depending on how many are interested, I could speak to 2 mates who are members of Brockenhurst RFC, who I am sure would be happy to host us (short taxi ride) as an alternative.

Anyway, maybe that's one for a fireside chat on Friday.

Here is the final list of food choices - let me know if I have missed anyone out.

Don if your shopping is very expensive, let us know the damage and we'll sort you out.

Paul
I've got some cider some lager (don't drink beer) and a bottle of Islay malt on board.
If necessary I can pick up a crate of bitter from Costco?

There seems an abundant supply off wood.......i can bring no nails stuff.......I DO NOT HAVE A FIREPIT.
I can supply a case of Doombar.10 tins...
Tankmusem is good for me,as the ticket is valid for multiple visits...

I will be passing on the Tank Museum visit as I live locally and have visited fairly recently. I can highly recommend it though. It's a good 3 hours worth. A real tank nerd could easily do a whole day there. There is a tolerable cafe.

Sammy Miller's Museum. Everyone says it's fantastic and I have attended many outdoor events there. Never actually been inside the museum though. They also have a cafe/tea room (how quaint).

Rugby. Nope.

We will probably go for a walk on Saturday. A pub may be involved.

Other notes. You'll be lucky to find any decent bitter in Southampton Costco. They did have a very cheap deal on slabs of St.Miguel earlier this week though.

Are we bringing food for Saturday night or is it supplied by some kind soul? Obviously a contribution would be appropriate.

Do we have a defined number of attendees?

Have to balance space in the panniers with rolls / bacon -

Tank museum? hmm been there done that,

Sammy Millers , been, & would go again

Rugger , anyday over Football, but may go for a walk / read a book / watch film

Right you bunch of feckers, all this planning has given me some thinking to do.

We moved house not that long ago, so I spent this morning digging out my camping kit and trying to decide which one of my four Hillebergs to bring (how the fuck did I end up with four of them!)

Looked at the bikes and decided I couldn’t be arsed loading up with camping kit, so will just load the tent and everything into the van. So that was all good and I had planned on doing a long walk around the coast on Saturday, hangover permitting, and taking in the lighthouse.

Now all this talk of the Tank Museum sounds like it could be much fun, so I guess I could throw the Hunter Cub into the back of the van and then use that for an excursion out to the museum all Micky styleee!

So maybe now I’ll travel down on Friday in the van, pitch up early and do the walk ready for the pub Friday night - and then do the tank stuff on the ickle Honda on the Saturday.

It may have been posted before, but was there any time that you had to check in after on the Friday?

From the website.....
Arrival times on site are from 8am for non electric pitches and 12pm for electric pitches. If you will arrive after 6pm please let us know in advance.

Thank you kind sir - I should have just looked it up myself shouldn’t I! :-)

I am going to order it on Wednesday, collect on way out of London. There seems to be about 14 of us. Its £13 a KG. I was going to get 4 kg (thats a 285 g sausage each) is that enough or should I go 5kg?

Depends on the individual who my be an eating machine and the size of it's dustbin

I am a svelte 6ft... 73 kilo lean mean eating machine....😅

I'll portion accordingly then for you Sir. I mean it depends what one is accompanying said sausage with. Salad, potatoes a boerie roll is great. But no salds and potatoes means 2 boerie rolls at least! PS, It wont go off once cooked and will heat up nicely for breakfast.. chopped into or with eggs

Once my vans set up on site it’ll most likely stay put, so a stroll to the pub (hopefully with the Rugby) on Saturday could be a safe option. I’m much too lazy to pack everything away again…… if only I had a bike trailer.

I’ve previously worked alongside REME at Bovington years ago so ticked all the Tank things off including driving them. Sammy Millers bike museum is superb and worth a visit if you haven’t been, including the Moto Guzzi V8 streamliners.

A comfy seat in a nice warm pub with a pint or two is quite appealing.

I am happy to bring:

Gas BBQ and table for it to stand on
Electric (Ninja) outdoor BBQ / air fryer / smoker and table
External gas hobs and table
Frying pan etc
Bacon (for everyone) on Saturday morning and Sunday. Please let me know via this thread if you’d like it. I will buy accordingly on Thursday.
Bread for bacon sandwiches (see above)
Butter for bacon sandwiches (see above)
Red / brown sauce for bacon sandwiches (see above)
London Pride

A spare chair (for Paul)

I would like to watch the rugby on Saturday. KO is at 16:45. I’d be happy to go on a walk before, if time permits. If we go away to watch us pulverise Scotland, I’d appreciate a lift or I’m happy to share a taxi. Let’s liaise on that one.

It will (very nearly) be my birthday. Anything from Ferrari will do.

I now only need to work out why the central heating on my motorhome has stopped. Lots of boiler activity but zero heat. It a closed circuit system (ie it does not rely on the vehicle’s water tank) and has ‘proper’ radiators. It has been hugely reliable, heating the vehicle to roasting.

plus 1 for rugby. Then big fire and beers (more).

is anyone bringing a large enough grid/grate / plancha to cook the sausage on..4/5kg is quite long...might have to do shifts lads

I’d go large on the sausage…. Oooh matron!

If you overclub it we can reheat or whatever on Sunday.

If you are bringing a Ninja Woodfire I will leave mine at home Richard, I think we have the bbq cooking situation covered between us all.

Yes please for a bacon roll/butty, I’ll recompense you for expenses. Likewise to anybody else that has spent out.

Happy to share a taxi to watch the rugby.

Your heating problem sounds like a possible circulating pump issue, presumably inbuilt to the boiler (ALDE wet heating system?). If you have a heating expansion/header tank in a wardrobe check the level is correct, if an ALDE system these typically use G12 antifreeze (same pink stuff as VW engines). If the system has a leak the pump could be cavitating and the system need venting/refilling.

(ALDE specify a heating system flush/drain and fluid replacement every five years.)
