Soft southern shandy drinkers…. Camping Friday 21 and Saturday 22 February 2025

Here is where I think we are:

1. The message from Rosie says:

Hello Richard,

Unfortunately it looks like the ground is going to be too wet for the tents this weekend. Would you like us to cancel the hard standings as well or keep those booked in?

Many Thanks

Rosie

She has unilaterally cancelled the tents. Her only question is whether she is to cancel the hard standings, too? That’s a simple “Yes” or no “No” question.

2. There doesn’t seem to be any alternative campsites leaping off the page.

3. Of the other potential sites, the common denominator seems to be that they do not open around 01 March or 01 April.

My suggestion, is that we stay with Hurst View but postpone the event until say, the weekend of Friday / Saturday / Sunday - 23, 24, 25 May if possible. This is the same weekend as the UKGSer do in Dent. As far as I can see, this also coincides with the schools’ half term.

I will go back to Rosie now, saying that we will give her a definite ‘Yes’ or “No” vis-a-vis the hard standings by 16:00 tomorrow, Tuesday. In the same mail I’ll ask about the weekend in May.

Richard

I can’t do the w/end 23-25 May due to family commitments (Grandsons first birthday). I’d get lynched by wife and daughter.

Happy to drop out if that becomes the future date and reimburse any expenses if incurred.

i'm watching this , FFS are you not all big rufty tufty bikers ? you are going to the New Forest , go find a bit of Forest and fucking camp in it ! find a track drive down it til you see no lights ...and stop , scrape of the grass , light a fire , go dig a hole to shit in .
WHAT IS THE WORLD COMING TO !
i'd be with you , but i have a nice warm bed waiting for me .......in Peterborough , that night.

As it is getting very complicated too arrange things at such a short notice,
The trouble is as I see it,,,is..
We are not on line at the same time so there is always a lag in a yes or no answer or what about this place or that place..

It is admiral for people too be looking for places too stay but again it is a question on time lagging answers...
Mike..

curious how she can cancel tents..they're happy to have fires on the ground, what damage will tents do to the field (by my recollection, it was a pretty hard field) Are they expecting floods? They don't even know what tents we have and how much each of us has researched said tents on this forum..lol

I don't know but it might be because of vehicles driving on the wet ground to access the tent area?

I have emailed the Red lion and asked for availability this weekend

6 camper vans with leccy & 6 tents

Leaving curiosity aside, this is the updated list, as far as I know it:

Booked in by Wapping

Wapping - Motorhome and hook-up
Pukmeister - T5 and hook-up
cookie (Mr & possibly Mrs) - Campervan and hook-up
NeilDD - Campervan and hook-up

The Other PaulG - Tent
Toddmeister - Tent
Bumble-Bee - Tent
Orinoco - Tent
adventuredon - Tent
Santa 25-12 - Tent

Booked in direct

Crumbles - T5 and hook-up
JonnyBravo (plus 1) - Tent - Four wheels, probably
Ianak - Campervan and hook-up

Of those booked by me, we know that the site has cancelled the tent bookings. That just leaves me needing to hear from Pukmeister, cookie and NeilDD whether they wish their hard standing reservation to stay in place. I have PM’d all three, to ask them the simple “Yes” / “No” question and told them the cut-off date / time.

I have also PM’d, The Other PaulG, Toddmeister, Bumble-Bee, Orinoco, adventuredon, Santa 25-12 and Crumbles, JonnyBravo and Ianak, referring each of them to posts #275 onwards.

Yes, I appreciate that several have picked up on the news already but this way everyone is up to speed.

Richard

Ive emailed as well, but a call may be more direct

I'm a yes to tenting

Just in case

If the Red Lion can accommodate us at short notice, who will / would go there

The evening meal (pub) may not happen , but the BBQ should be OK

1) Santa - Tenting

If Bredy Farm is a go, or the Red Lion, or an awning at Hurst View, I would definitely still be on for this.
Ha Ha... Bredy Farm will be a no go, it's just down the road from me and very very soggy, plus they're not open until April, neither is Litton Lakes which is also here and also very soggy. I cannot think of anywhere hereabouts that could accommodate this combination of moho's and tents this time of year unfortunately... and we have a very small garden 😂

I can check with the 7 Stars pub in Wool in the morning they have elect hook ups and its very handy for the tank museum and they allow fire pits and open all year round and the camping is behind the pub oh and they do have cabins
