Mat at NOG told me that the software to correct the flat battery problemb was faulty and BMW were working on a new version and that he would let me know when it was avalible.

Could that be it do you think?? :)

AFAIK North Oxford Garage is still "waiting for the CD", I want mine done ASAP as I've been left stranded a few times due to flat batter... I'm surviving tho....:)

Had it done and noticed you have to keep the LH indicator switch pushed in for about 3 seconds [after ignition off] to get the parking lights on.....
....and the alarm has gone a bit tempermental...

When you update your software,do you pay for it??
At my last service, they charged the update !?!?

RE CALL TOO LATE

I got a letter in the post on Saturday for flat battery re-call,
Went to get on bike on Sunday falt battery, had to wait 3 hours for BMW service (wife insisted on tiles being grouted while the bike sat on the drive in glorious sunshine).
Service guy arrived started bike and waited while I took it for a 20 min run, got back shut down, battery dead. He couldn't do any more.
I rang Jefferies this morning they said "no problem ring Mondial they will collect and bring it to us, we will load new software and replace battery under warranty if required and Mondial will deliver it back".
Rang Mondial they said they would come out and start it and I could ride it to dealers, I explained that I was at work 20 miles away and would like it collecting, they eventually agreed and sent out a local recovery company who couldn,t handle bikes. It finally got picked up by another recovery company, I hope it will be OK.

I had my 6000 mile / annual service last week at SPC and they carried out the software upgrade.

I too find the alarm is a bit temperamental. You can press the button to arm and it wont do anything, have to switch ignition on / off then try again and its OK. I never had a flat battery, even after leaving it for weeks with the alarm on (resetting it every week or so).

BTW, was told the upgrade takes about 1.5 hrs, so dont hang around for it. :(

My alarm just died on me. It first started to switch itself to the "no noise" state. Then after a few days, it simply stopped working. No warnings no nothing.
I went to my dealer and he was able to GT1 the issue out, but he could not provide any explanation. It is now working, but for how long ?

Had my 6000 service at Mill last week along with the software upgrade.
This describes my experience exactly.
Wonder when we will get the next recall notice?

Software update completed today. It is aimed at curing the battery drain issue. My bike is 13 months old, and I had the battery drain problem in month 1. Few hours on the optimate and since then no problems. Hope todays update doesn't upset the apple cart.

Had mine in on Tuesday, after a near two hour wait was told that it needed a 'Vehicle order form' or something like that which would require a download or a disc from BM. The crux of the tale is that it won't go anywhere as it apparently doesn't know what it is! Perhaps it thinks it's a tractor...........hang on it is! Anyway, yet again it's been left at the dealers, methinks that it's all too complicated and that long term BM have made a massive cock up as me for one, no matter how much I like riding it (5000 miles in 6 months) I WILL NOt be buying another new BM ever again.

There is a glitch with the latest ECM update (October). The download can, for some unknown reason, delete the bike's identity. I was asked if I wished to proceed and said yes. I figured it would be better with the update and the risk of my GS forgetting who it was was minimal. No problem with the update and the bike is considerably better for it.
Sorry 6969, but you were just unlucky. Don't give up.

Mine is still at jefferies as my bike has had it's computer memory wiped off, Jefferies don't know what to do and are waiting for instructions from BMW. :(

Software Upgrade

My 1200 gs broke down today for the third time since I bought it in January. How come it takes this long for the factory to rectify a build fault? Incidently my local dealer didn't seem to know about any software upgrade, I had to bleat at the sales dept to find out such a thing exists! I hope it works cos its going to be a shame to lose such a great bike (and what the hell do you replace it with?) But £10k + 3 breakdowns in less than a year is not my idea of a quality product. My Harley is more reliable and thats 5 years old!

By now all uk dealers will have cd 5.1 installed on their diagnostic computers erespective of what they tell you. occassionally during software updates and this has only happened 3 times with me , the software update can crash leaving the bike unable to start. a call to the importers requires them to contact bmw ag with the full bike details such as chassis , spec etc in order for them to receive an email from the factory containing the relevant vehicle file. the file is then copied from the email to a cd or usb stick and is then downloaded in to the bike to restore all functions.Downtime depending on when problem is reported to gb approx 2 days
