Solar Eclipse.

The difficulty of peering through the thick, black, acrid smoke that will be generated by burning a mound of greasy, fat-cat, capitalist lackeys notwithstanding, the current forecast for Durness on the 19th, i.e. the day before the eclipse, is 8 deg C with a SW wind at 8 mph, gusting to 17 mph so that it feels like 6 deg C. Cloud cover is 75% with an estimated 61 mins of sunshine between 9:00 amd and noon. (No indication if this allows for the eclipse). There's a 20% probability of precipitation. Relative humidity 73%.

The forecast for Friday 20th should be available tomorrow.

Campsite at Durness is free off season with access to toilets. Bit parky but then again a good bonfire should sort that!:augie

Forecast looks ok. High pressure settled for mid week but starting to break down towards the week end. Clear skies (but cold nights) for the eclipse. Will hold off until Tuesday but looks like a goer at the moment.

fettling bike today......1 eye on forecast...booked in anyway and no deposit required.....loads of bikes up the glen today...

Looking at a map it's of a trek from Edinburgh, are the roads up that way fairly "quick"? Not being from around this way it's always best to seek advice from locals in the know.

Would I have to put on a fake accent and use a sharpie to draw a Saltaire tatoo on so I don't end up in the Wickerman?

Just had a H&S note around in work on this for Friday morning.

Need to get some additional task lighting, not be travelling, don't look directly at it, and get a pin hole camera

Latest forecast shows a weather front coming in from the south west more quickly than predicted earlier and lots of rain on Thursday evening. Plus cloud cover on Friday so, for that reason ...

Yup, weather in Durness looking pretty shitty for fri morn. I'll leave it til tomorrow and check again.....shame but it looks as though I would see it better here!

Contrary to what you may have been told, there is absolutely NOT going to be a solar eclipse on Friday :augie

Hmm, last one happened behind clouds in Cornwall, seems this one will to in the North. So maybe Fanum is right....

Better chance of seeing it here I think...if there is one ;-)

I am, but not for the reason you deduce ;)

Its been perfect up here for the last couple of days. Early mist then crystal clear skies.
Tomorrows forecast...cloud.....typical.
We might get a peep of it between the clouds - maybe.....

I told a colleague that there was an eclipse on Friday at 9:30.

She said "9:30 in the morning?"':blast

The sun has got his hat on, hip-hip-hip hooray....!

Here's my friend Jock showing off his eclipse watching preparations just a wee while ago. :thumb
