And its a grey import.

Bought it four years ago and theyre a decent dealer from my experience, so i have no reason to twist.

Anyone had this before? Can the headlight be adjusted or will i have to trail back to the garage for it to be changed? They dont know until i give them the part number (which i cant find yet!)

Any sensible input appreciated :beerjug:

I thought.. though this may be wrong.. based on misread posts (maybe) That one 'improvement' the 1150 had over the 1100 headlamp was that the aim of the beam was changed simply by rotating the lamp in its housing. So.. there is no such thing as a 'wrong' headlamp.

Remove screen and silver cover over the clocks and all becomes aparent
There are 2 M4 clamping screws 1 top 1 bottom which you slacken so the dip beam unit can be rotated against the stops to give you RH or LH kick up for the beam.
If it hasn't been adjusted in years then it maybe a bit sticky so take care, as its about £180 quid for a new one. DAMHIK

cheers for the input all

What does RTFM mean? Hope its not what I think...

It politely suggests that you read the owners manual, that you probably didn't get with a used bike.

But posts above are correct, the dip beam lamp rotates, clockwise viewed from the saddle for UK. When new the lamp could be turned without releasing any clamp bolts but after years be careful.

yes it took me four years and about 30 000miles to notice
does that offend you?

have had two opinions re the headlight in an MOT - BMW say its not tested in an MOT, my local garage say it is.

anyone had similar experience? :nenau

Hi, are you referring to the larger of the two lights? Think it's the dipped beam...for vehicles driving on the right side of the road?

If so I would be willing to pay £60 for it, which is what Motorworks charge for a similar used part....and you can order one from them. Mine is cracked & they charge a fapping fortune over here. Delivery would be to London and it would need to be in good nick ;)

That is of course if you would be willing to do such a 'trade'?

hi
yes its one that is set for driving on the right hand side of the road ie NOT the uk.
If i am left with it after getting sorted with BMW it will be for sale sir! :thumb

You dont get a Uk / non uk dipped headlight on the 1150. The headlamp rotates so that it can comply with whatever country you are in. Why would you want to sell a perfectly good headlamp just to replace it with one the same.

As far as the Uk MOT is concerned the headlamp beam is testable and failable.

yes you do, I've got a non uk dip unit in mine. The rectangular pattern in the glass will be crooked in a non uk unit when you twist it for use in the uk.

Mine failed it's first mot, and I had not noticed before...

I don't think that the glass moves, the dip cut off is controlled by a "blade" within the projector unit attached to the back of the lamp where the bulb is installed. I think that it is just this back bit that turns.

No - the whole unit turns.

thats not what BMW say (not that that means anything - most main dealers of any vehicle are fitters, not mechanics :D )

It would probably have failed due to the alignment being wrong, not from an incorrect beam pattern i.e. to high/low. The beam pattern itself is symetrical and rotates correctly. It doesn't matter how the glass looks in the housing if it's been designed to carry out the function. I changed the rotation when I picked my bike up in '03 and had it checked at an mot tester as i was doubtful that it would work. I've only failed an MOT when I had flipped the lever for a fully loaded bike and forgot to reset it.
