Hello Roger,

An elegant solution indeed!

I seem to remember reading a thread somewhere about putting carbs on an oil head. Do you know if it worked?

Absolutely no idea , but I have been wondering about that possibility , mainly whilst I was riding this summer after fuel pump failures ! Not really knowing much at all about fuel injectors ( why should I if I can just ask Miss Fuel Pump ) ? It would be an interesting exercise-

my ideal would be -dump the servos, maybe dump ABS, dump the interior fuel filter, lose the fuel injectors and fuel pump ( now that'd be a real relief), and then what are you left with ? Pretty nearly a reliable, easy to fix, quite a bit lighter, good old oil cooled airhead ???:confused::confused:

But in all seriousness, has anyone ever taken off the fuel injection, and replaced with carbs, and what was the performance/fuel economy like ?

Hi Roger,

Wish my memory was what it used to be. It was a while ago that I read about the idea (UKGSER).
It did seem extreme, though. But maybe someone had had as much 'fun' as you did..
Read about a bloke in the US, restoring an old airhead. He had all sorts of fun and games with the old Bings. He bought a pair of mikunis for less than the Bing re-furb kit.
Dunno really. Where do you stop? Contact breaker ignition?
A real Mad Max, post WWIII machine.
I think I would have to be planning to go well off the beaten track to do the above.
Was just curious, really: take emissions out of the equation - what benefit do we get with Fuel injection. Probably better over widely differing altitudes..

I'll see if I can find anything on here.

I still think you'd be blummin unlucky to get that problem again, (surely).

B.
