I've decided to spam my gs1200 up with a few tasty bits from Nippy Normans.

Unfortunately, this has made me realise 3 things;

1) My tool kit is rather inadequate
2) 1) doesn't matter because I'm crap at mechanics
3) even if 2) wasn't the case it would be difficult as all the instructions are in German.

I've managed to fit a few bits but I'm having trouble with a Wunderlich gear lever, NN bar risers and fastway footpegs.

Basically, I've fitted the gearlever but in the process of overtightening rounded off the hex thread - so it's on but won't ever come off again.

I don't have any circlip pliers which look as though they are needed to fit the footpegs - plus from memory the only thing that reliably happens with circlips is that they ping off to forgotten corners of the garage never to be seen again.

And the risers need some cable re-routing which means dropping the forks, and given the pig's ear I made of the gear lever I'm reluctant to wade in.

Does anyone know a machine shop nearby - I live in South Oxfordshire, between Wallingford and Henley that would drill the gear lever bolt out and fit a new one? The bikes going to NOG on Tue for a service - would they do it? And would they fit the bits, or is there anywhere else around that would do it?

thanks....

Give NOG a quick call to confirm but I'm sure they will do the bolt extraction (and replacement!) for you with very little effort. If not get yourself a replacement bolt and PM me...I've got bolt extractors here somewhere but will need to search them out. Should only take a few minutes to do the job.

thanks Greencat - I'll pm you if they can't do it.

Do you think they'd fit the other bits too?

ooops...bit slow replying...you probably know already!
I've found in the past that some garages are happy to take your cash but others are a little more reserved if they haven't sourced the hardware themselves (protecting themselves from legal action if the hardware fails possibly?).
Give NOG a shout and let us know how you got on for future reference.

Yeah, no bother - couldn't do it today so I booked it in again - next spare slot is mid April, though.

They took the Wunderlich gear lever off and re-fitted the old one as the bolt on the Wunderlich was knackered. Not great quality, actually. Now I just need to figure out what size the bolt is and get another one.
