Some pics from today

The ice and snow didnae keep a pair of tosser from a wee ice road adventure that day though.,,,

Permission has been granted . . . . :thumb2

Yes . . Glen Quaich was 'interesting' that day, it took us about 1.5 hours to negotiate it.

I was glad I wasn't on my 1150GSA - or it would still be up there :blast

Climbing up the hill from the Amulree end was bad enough, but coming down at the Kenmore end was a nightmare, I was having to take to the (ice-covered) grass to find some grip.

Bob.

Harcore or what? No. Just half daft.

Funnily enough, I remebered it being worse than that looks. The hard covered ice patches were a nightmare.

Homesick

I must admit when saw this post, and looked at Wully's pictures I felt so so homesick and lonely :(:(:(

I could even conjure up the sweet smell of the air, the smell of the moisture on the tarmac and just look at how tranquil it all is!!! :(

It's bloody hard work living the life of a mecenery gypsy out here in Asia going from one hot war torn hell hole to another and back again dodging randomn explosions, bullets with the constant threat of being kidnapped and beheaded! - what I'd give for an old fashioned punch up in a pub and one thing is for sure: I will nevr complain about a pot hole in a road, a power cut and water being 'cut off' for 1/2 day for maintainace........try having no roads, water full of cockroaches and living next to a portable petrol generator day up day!!!

Message to me: 'stop logging on to this site till I get back home'......

Wow!!!! Thankyou guys I'm so touched.

Wully, we are staying at Isle of seil now, you must be from near these parts? I love it over here, was the best desision to come here at this time, I feel very close to Mick here as he loved the West coast so much. We went to Mull on Tuesday Saw 3 golden eagles, otters, & jonathan swam in sea near to some curious seals who kept bobbing their heads up to take a look at him!

I hope I can see you all again some time & get to know you better & put the faces to the strange screen names.

Wully,

I thought so! We drove past yesterday on our way to Crinan, if I had known I would have seeked you out, actually a adv overtook us on the road from Crinan to Oban! But then you have a GS? Instead we spent today on a high powered motor boat from Easdale out to Iona & Staffa (pretty good) Just to let you know Mick & I stayed at Croab Haven 3 years ago in cottage over looking the harbour, It was on his birthday (16th June) so same time of year & we loved it But got eaten alive by the dreaded midges! We also visited Ardfern & had a meal & a pint at the pub there on the green. Mick loved it there so much we came back with our friends that year having first visited the area the previous year on the Adv where we went over to Applecross & on to Gairloch, one of the best rides we had had together, despite the mist over the pass to Applecross! He always wanted to go to the 'Fairy Lochs' up that way because he had heard of a plane crashed there in WW2? I will have to go now & find it myself.
Thanks for your support on Sat.
Caroline

Typical!!
I would have but he was a bit quicker than even my aero turbo powered saab! & on those windy roads I would have been pushing my luck. I'm going to put one of the GS stickers Mick had printed on my car so all you GSer's out there know I'm part of the family too. Mick had one on his van & I once owned a 600CS, so why not. Give me a wave when you pass in future, I always try & make room for you when you pass me!
I'm home in Norfolk now after my lovely 3 weeks in Scotland & am missing the food, whiskey, friendly faces, mountains, clean air, rivers, oh & the midges, rain & mist-Yes I really am!

Caroline

What a conincidence, I was out with Bhud on his yacht and he spoke about local walks and told me about the crashed plane which was only a few miles away.

Our first attempt got stopped by an attack of "cleggs" (or horsefly which were far worse than midgies). I wasn't too bad but Skye and Kaitlyn were obviously quite tasty to them. We were camping with friends so the next morning I managed to arrange some time to try it again myself. I will post up more photos on a separate thread, but here is the area around the commemorative plaque.

Skyenet (what's your real name)!

Another face to a stange name!
Yes quite a coinsidence, Mick was a great aviation enthusiast (WW2) especially. He wanted so much to go visit the site you are pictured at. He thought about it on our trip, but the weather was terrible & it would have meant climbing in all our riding gear, so like a lot of things we put it off till another time!(never do that, do it now) I will go there sometime, I owe him that much.

Thank you for coming to our table on the 20th June, it mean't a lot. I really hope to meet up with you again, when I can feel more relaxed & not have my mind wondering elsewhere. You are all the same really, nice, thoughtful, fun, interesting & middle aged & should know better! But I know who I would rather be in the company of & it wouldn't be most of the idiots that I have to deal with.

See you again one day.

You would probably have sunk into a bog in all your motorcycle gear. Even after the recent dry weather it was still hard going in areas, I would dread to think what it would be like after heavy rain.

Its a lovely area up around Gairloch and Bhud's yacht was a great place to see it from. After leaving him we stayed 3 nights at Big Sands camping which was just a few miles away.
