What improvements / differences between the 2008 1200 GSA and the last of the non LC bikes apart from the twin cams ?

different final drive with a breather.
more expensive servicing as spark-plugs cost at least twice as much.
more expensive servicing as valves are more labour intensive to reset that also includes buying 'shim' ball-bearing spacers.
think that that's about it really.

Tank filler is different as the painted bits of bodywork are different tho the black bits are the same. ABS is slightly different, the rear light...ermmm...exhaust has "exup" valve...the new one comes with rubbish tyres....I think thats it but I'm sure there is more as I have an 2012 and only an 06 and 04 to compare it too. M
After Sept 2010 you have a proper fuel lever sensor instead of the fuel strip.

That's only because they get a better look when you're all laid up without rear brake pads, cannot find gear, handlebar switches fail....
The twin cams rev better and sound better, but drone a bit on motorways. A very much nicer engine IMO.
We are still talking Hex Heads here not the LC right ? I've been pestered all feckin Day !!

and the new one does not have the indicator switch on either side, i believe its all on one side
