Something for the winter

OK, winter has finally arrived and for some, especially us here in Germany, we've already experienced our first, and heavy, snowfall.
Over the weekend the OH and I removed our two GS's batteries and secured the bikes in their environmental tent safe from the extreme dampness of the season and where they will stay until mid March at the earliest. :mad:

Which of course leads to thoughts of - 'where too next year'. Here's a seventeen minute video to watch whilst sitting back and enjoying a nice beer or two which might just provide some food for thought/inspiration. Warning - not for those who are more concerned about keeping their bike clean rather than getting out and riding the darn thing. :)

Excellent, we're off down to the Alpes de Haute Provence nest year and that has given me some ideas. Not so sure I should show the wife some of the roads, like the Combe Laval as she doesn't have a head for heights!
 
Brilliant video. Thanks for posting the link. I wish I could learn how to do them, especially the panning shots where he zooms on a static shot and pans across it- must be in a video editing program or something.

great roads , where are those roads with the over hanging cliff face ??? would really love to ride that next year .

If memory serves Mike is an Apple fan boy LOL and may use iMovie as his editing program. The same effect can be achieved with a PC application called Movie Studio released by Sony. I personally use Movie Studio Platinum v12 (the latest) which in the UK can be obtained from Amazon for the giveaway price of £49. I say it's a giveaway because the bundle also includes DVD authoriing in addition to an audio editing app.

The effect in question that you are referring to can be achieved used the Pan/Crop FX and is very easy to achieve. Here's a video tutorial using Pan/Crop using version 10 of the programme but it's exactly the same in v12.

PS There is also a Pro version of the software which costs.......cough........let's just say a lot LOL.

You have brought back to me my own Vercors ride (July 2012) with the Combe Laval footage and then onto one of your other vids, Parpaillon On Ice, which was also part of my Alpine Tour this year. Unfortunately you had a tougher time than me through the tunnel :D despite you being there the same month as me. I actually came through the tunnel from the opposite end and bit the ice almost immediately on entry but the rest of the tunnel I treated with a lot more respect. Again, great footage.

I am guessing the Ligurian footage was on the Via Del Sale route? Somewhere I have been wanting to go the last two years but I do think it's pushing my luck a little to do it unaccompanied!

Excellent video. I have ridden many of these roads and they are stunning. I live in a beautiful area. Lucky me! If anyone is looking for accom next year check out my post under south of france in the accom section. Tour de France is back next year

Looks like you need to break the bikes out again. Looking at the forecast over the holiday weekend and next week, it looks perfect for a late summer trip down to the Italian lakes.

I guess your in Schwabia if you had the snow this weekend, I am at Biberach.

Spot on :beerjug: but no, the bikes are staying put this weekend cos we're off to places in and around München on Wednesday morning for a few days of climbing.

Glad people enjoyed the earlier video but may I offer a suggestion? Whilst pottering around in the Provence why not pull in a bit of Italy. Great scenery and equally great roads. This video will show you the way. Enjoy

OK I just saw it as a shadow. Helmet mounted GoPro I think. Seems to take better photos than mine though!!

Correct. In more recent videos multiple GoPro's Hero's are used, front facing and rear facing, in order to make smoother transitions of what's just been overtaken for example.
