I dinged my oil pan above 10,000ft here in the mountains of Mexico the other day and was a couple of hundred kms from home. My riding partner was a visiting rider from Arizona who spotted the leak. I cleaned off the oil pan with my alcohol hand gel and got it spic and span, he then pulled out a 3M tape product from his panniers and we applied two small pieces overlapping to cover the ding. This stuff held immediately, we waited a few minutes and no leak. We dropped down off the mountain, still no leak. At a gas stop an hour later still dry as a bone. Headed home with stretches over 160kmh in high heat and humidity, still no leaks after 2 hours. It has been a week and the tape is still holding and doing its job like a champ! The tape is rated for 90c but has an emergency rating to 130c which I think is about as hot as the oil pan will get but I never measured the running temp of the oil pan.
It is like the Keef Richards of tapes.
