Good evening,

In fact this message is to collect your ideas regarding a hp2 mm road test I am going to do on Saturday the 29th. I am so exited by this date that I have to spend my time on the forums... and in english this time.... (for those who know what I mean)
Would you have any advices for such a event ?

I have a small practice in my past life when I was young with off-road riding... but I haven't try any pure *hypermoto* *supermoto* (I dont know the name in english sorry) .
A guy told me that I have to take care of the fact that the bike geometry is different compares to a road bike and it takes some time to getting used to it ! Is that right ?

I didn't plan to touch the road with the edges of the engien but I have already prepared my back protector in case of the habits come too quickly... ;)

On your side, how do you use your bike ? I have been told that the mm should be used a second bike (that is my case)... not interesting to ride every day... but shoud it be imaginable to use it anyway for going to work, riding in town, ... What are the defaults or problems you can consider for the mm ? Practical aspects ?

Ok I know and I agree totally, we buy it with the heart and not with the brain but I would listen your thoughts on this nevertheless.
Waiting for my first test with that exclusive bike... exclusive moment coming soon... 2 nights too sleep... still....
Cheers.

No real advice but to enjoy it :) :)

The bike is very light, especially for a BMW, but is very easy to ride quickly. It is firmly sprung, and the seat is not a cushion, but it take very little adjusting too.

There is no reason why the MM could not be used everyday, it's no different from any other BMW in that respect. I'm not in a position with work to ride mine everyday, but I do ride it as much as I can for pleasure.

I use my HP2 every single day commuting to work and back home, going on trips, general ride around the area popping to the shops etc. Don’t sell your mind to the consumer guru’s dude, you can use this bike for near everything if you want to. It might be better in some instances than other but again is there a bike that is good overall with every single thing?

Had the supermoto setup most of the year on my bike and now back on enduro wheels. The supermoto setup similar to the MM is very VERY confidence inspiring and although the bike wriggles and move like a hot date with a few to many tequilas under you still very responsive and solid when you crack the throttle wide open. Be carefull of the long suspension travel as you could find stopping quickly a bit scary with the back wheel lifting or locking up. Besides this I can’t complain about the bike and don’t know what else is out there that would do what the HP2 does so well. It’s an animal so ride it like one :D

At the end of the day you will either love this bike or absolutely hate it, there is no inbetween unfortenately :beerjug:

MM... my first road test... my feelings...

Hello everybody,
youpi-12.gif

MM test done... it was dry on Saturday at Bornem (Belgium, Flanders, near Antwerp)... cold but dry ... ideal conditions for a speed-dating of an hour and a half with THE bike!

First impression... less impressive than in the lounges... but despite all the other bikes around... we directly see it... ok my vision was biased but you feel what I mean.

First round of the machine... a habit even with my Buell... I think this comes from the time when I was the glider pilot and for which this tour is an obligation... security issue... but I speak here of another life. This tour shows 2 strange elements that I will mention latter.

Installing Tripy, fast and small roads... Bla Bla with the Bmw guy, friendly by the way.

And here I am on my tour... Well I'll tell you that I thought to be more destabilized at the start... We can start with this machine with hand fingers in the nose... figuratively, is a picture huh... because at the first bend your hands on the handlebars could serve you ;-)

I would have thought taking my bath such it was easy in both cornering at low speed and at higher speed. Takeovers are amazing, the sight of the left and right cylinder can remember me my R1100R, but this has nothing comparable. What surprised me at higher speeds is the little inconvenience that I felt even with the absence windbreaker vaulting. Is it that in the excitement of the moment I do not perceive the pressure on the torso or stir on the helmet, or maybe because of the Buell Ulysses who even with the Buell wind is not a reference in this matter. Nevertheless, even at sustained speeds is enjoyable. You tell me if I am wrong ok ?

3-minute stop to view / inspect the beast, 2 small exchanges with passersby and I go with even more confidence.

Very handy at low speed, U-Turn easy... no real problem with its behavior in fact... direction very direct but I love it... and it is true that I am positioned on the front, that is change compared to the Buell.

Here I am on the way back to the garage when this f.u.c.k.i.n.g Tripy takes me in an area of road work... I am on the deviation... and then of course this bloody system got lost and decided to lose me and takes me I don't know where ... not very nice this Tripy... real dirt... or I do not know how to use it, in any case now I understand why I have a Zumo550! (ok this is not the same type of box, not the same type of use, his is not the issue here) But I'm smarter :-) than this little box and found my way not without problem and I am back without any assistance to the concession.

My little trip is ended and I redo a complete inspection of the bike to confirm the strange things mentioned earlier!

First, if the design of the bike must be beyond doubt, I wonder if we can say the same thing about its quality of manufacture. Let me explain, I compared the manufacturing arm with another R1200R and R1200GS, why this ugly longitudinal when it is not apparent (or non-existent) on other machines?

Secondly, I found that the framework was filled up with transparent plastic stickers. The framework is there so little resistant to friction without sticky plastic ?

Finally the dark spot, probably the only really problematic, the saddle! After 5 kms I had pain in the posterior and between-legs because of the location at that position. Too bad! I count on you to tell me if a solution exists.

On leaving the concession with the Buell that was strange while returning to an 'flipped' engine ('culbuté' in french)... trembling everywhere while the MM seemed soft and quiet ... funny to say that for a flat-twin. I am surprised to drive a little faster, going more openly in the rpm... already the influence of MM?

I think the swingarm on the HP2 is longer than the 1200R or 1200GS if memory serves me right so slightly different indeed.

Secondly, I found that the framework was filled up with transparent plastic stickers. The framework is there so little resistant to friction without sticky plastic ?

Yep for a motorcycle this expensive you would hope that they at least stuck on some decent paintwork. But think because of the seating position and usage you will end up hugging the frame more with your legs and boots. Not ideal but cheaper than a paintjob down the line

Finally the dark spot, probably the only really problematic, the saddle! After 5 kms I had pain in the posterior and between-legs because of the location at that position. Too bad! I count on you to tell me if a solution exists.

Well yes this is "THE" bike to practise saddle sore 1000 with, if you can do long distance with this machine nothing else will ever bother you. You do get use to the seat although a 200+ mile day does start to hurt. Options is fitting a gel insert or use an airhawk cushion. I did a 870 mile day on the HP2 with the airhawk and was fine.

Glad you got to do the test ride and as I said you will either love it or hate it :beerjug:

Hi all,

Would you tell me when on the internet can I find those items:

1/ The black frame protectors we can see on the Cyclop & HP2Marc's bikes ?

2/ The protector in carbon around the rear wheel ?

3/ The engine head protectors, I guess we can find a lot of them... what are your choices and why ?

4/ The protection to set around the Ohlins shock ?

That is for a start... I begin already my searching... that is a good idea I think !!!

I will go next with handguards, heated grips, windscreen,... but bike protection before everything else :roll

Many thanks.

The diff and frame protectors I know of is Hyde from a company in South-Africa, not sure where to source it from locally

Hyde

Holan in Poland do some really nice stuff as well and have bought crash bars and light protector from them. Quality products definitely and they are cheaper than Touratech on their own stuff. They do the frame protectors for about 50 euro

Holan

Thanks Maverick...

I had a look into those sites and indeed I found a lot of interesting things...

Do you know anybody who tried the "rear tank" from Holan ? Seems interesting, isn't it ?

Cheers.
