So I really didn't want to be another ABS statistic but I'm not sure where to go to next.

I bought the bike a few weeks ago and have given it a major overhaul.
Everything was done to it by myself. I went through this forum and found the doc instructions on stripping down the ABS pistons.
I stripped them down, it was relatively straight forward. There was a lot of gunk in the front cylinder system, the rear was crystal clear.
Cleaned everything and reassembled, reset at pin 2 for 8 seconds + 60 seconds but unfortunately it did not work, fault remains.

ABSii went on the bike a few years ago according to the old owner.
A new closed cell battery was fitted just before the sale and I have a solar panel trickle charger that keeps the battery topped up, cant remember of the top of my head, but I think it is near 12.8v... will recheck this evening.

Still no abs on the bike. Can anyone suggest a trouble shooting procedure to test for anything else? Wiring, sensors etc. Electronics are hard to source here (in dubai), can anyone suggest a code reader that I can use with bits in my shed? I have a digital multimeter and I think it is it is fault 6 or 7 based on voltage spikes, but as noted by some people here, the digital multimeter is not so accurate, cant find an analogue voltmeter or led/resister combo.
Any logical steps, I can follow? I dont want to replace all sensors unless there is an issue with them etc.

Thanks in advance for your help :beerjug:

actually, worth a mention.
I had written off the abs when the piston clean didnt work, but when riding an offroad track in the desert last week, i noticed mid ride (after a few falls and bumps) both lights were flashing simultaneously.
I was very excited thinking I fixed it by accident. I turned off the engine and restarted and I was back to immediate alternate blinking.
Hence, this thread feeling I'm close... hoping rather.

My abs is intermittent I'm checking air gap on the sensors /rotors and the residual level in the abs unit once those steps done if my problems persist I willenhallscooter be de activating my abs /servo system as described earlier in the thread good luck with your trouble shooting

Thanks neo.
So I got home "new" battery (as per previous owner) is a yusa, sealed.
I gave the bike a hard run yesterday for a few hours.
It's been on the trickle charger for over 24hrs (in Dubai sun that should be a lot).
Key out battery reads between 12.65 and 12.7
Ignition on reading drops to about 12.5 to 12.55
Engine on and it reads over 13.
Abs reset does not reset fault and both lights alternate immediately on key turn.
Can a new battery really be on the cards...
My buddies 1150gs had a flat yesterday and my battery jumped his and his abs was fine.
Could both batteries have combined to give over the 12.8 required for abs?
Dam,
Would love clarification before I fork out for a second new battery

have a go at your buddies battery :beerjug:

If it's not the battery...
From experience and advice on here... Get a known working abs sensor and try replacing front and rear one by one. You don't need to fit the test sensor to the wheel as the fault isn't triggered by the gap to the ring, only by testing the signal from a (faulty) sensor. Good luck

Dam, I'm an idiot, but your right. Both batteries were connected in parallel and his started without abs issues and mine with. Suppose I could have recovered it, but I don't think the battery voltage sets.

Would this fail at key on? I thought this fail would only happen at the self check at speed? I'll read some more here, didn't spot that advice. Thanks.

Yes. Easy test to perform then you can rule out faulty sensors. You can plug a rear into the front and vice versa, it's the same plug type.
Dam, didn't realise that! I thought that would be picked up at the driveway test.
However... Wouldn't that error be 3 or 4?
I "think" I'm reading a 6 or 7, but it's hard to read with digital multimeter...

Yes, you mentioned code 6 or 7 after my initial post. If you're unsure on the code though it's still worth a shot IMO.

I bled my rear brake today (coke coloured fluid) not good checked the reservoir level (fine) switched ignition servo check fine Immidiate alternate slow flashing... Removed the tank, opened reservoir under the tanks for front and rear circuits front fluid (coke coloured) rear fluid clearer but way low! Drewsteignton out as much if the cacky old fluid I could with a surringe, topped up both front and rear circuits thought I'd try the ignition bingo seems ok back to the last check before the roll off.. So I swear my problem was rear circuit low on fluid, I blee the rear until clear and topped up the circuit, drew out the hand brake master cylinder old fluid topped up with fresh and bled front calipers and topped up the front internal abs circuit reservoir, probably not the correct way of doing it but if it keeps the lights from blinking when tested in the next few days I'll do the full drain and proper bleed with all the bleed nipple in the iabs unit.. I don't have a vacuum bleeder to draw through them fluid tho.. I would say my fluid has not been changed for years no wonder these systems fail with neglect, bmw say fluid change every year. Will report back once test ridden... Absectomy still on cards at the moment...
