SORRY...... Another oil thread

As we're bandying snide little insults, I feel compelled to ask if you've got shares in the company that owns Duckhams? ;)

no, just someone who's used a fair amount of the stuff with no ill effects at all and doesn't believe every bit of unsubstantiated, negative hearsay he hears bandied about.

i still believe, that if there really was a problem then it would be more well known & the oil company in question would have stopped selling/rebranded the offending product. after all, they've had since proff's thesis in 1972 to do it.

Fair enough.
We differ on this, but what the hell - what would we talk about if we all thought the same :) ...

Right you lot, thats enough now, behave yerselves.:mad::mad:

I started this thread in the hope that either someone had used the local oil company XADO in the original post and could recommend them, or that I was by chance the first to discover them. I had hoped to do the Southern folks a favour through posing about a 'local' supplier who sold a product that not every retailer/motor factor stocks at a hopefully decent price.

Turns out that after asking them, their oil isn't priced low enough for my liking and as the product well exceeds what the air cooled boxer engine needs, it's a false economy for me personally to buy it.

My gut feeling was that the very mention of the word oil would invite a verbal punch up here. I can see why Tarka gets the hump about oil threads so much now.

sorry pukmeister - nothing to do with xado - i have two one litre bottles of castrol 10/40 GP 4T mineral oil - my idea is to buy another two litres of the stuff and have the dealer change the oil before i uplift my approved used GS1200 bike - the question being is castrol GP 4T 10/40 acceptable for warranty purpose ?

Cant be right.

Just been to Hein Gericke and bought 4 litres of 10W50 fully synth for £21. I didn't buy any Dot4 brake fluid for my ABS flush from them as it was too expensive.

I popped into my local Unipart factors (formerly Partco) to get Dot4 at a decent price and there it was on the shelf, Unipart 20W50 grade Mineral to API SF spec at £12.33 + Vat for 5 litres.:blast

At least I now know were I can source it locally and without paying through the nose for the privilege.

If you need 20W50, find a local UNIPART auto factors.

Went to Unipart and found 5 litres 20w/50 with api SF/CC spec written on it for £8.25 plus vat.

The spec on my manual says "API SE, SF, SG: combination with CC or CD spec."

There's a catch right?

I mean its a wind up isn't it?

I phoned unipart and the guy confirmed the spec, he says it doesn't have European spec cause its old stuff and hasn't been checked for it.

Anybody know why I cant use this?

Unipart today, 20W50 API SF 5 lit £12.33, 75W90 for FD 1 lit 3.67 both plus VAT.

I put any oil... Mine burns so much anyway, that keeping it standardised is irrelevant... I reckon mine needs 300-400ml per tank so 1.5 lt per 1000miles.. Its like a complete oil cange every 3k miles... Don't even know why I bother with actual oil changes and servicing...... There are 2 strokes around that burn less....

Theop - If its using that much oil there must be two strokes around that smoke less!!!
Have you got a hole????

There are 2 strokes around that burn less....

I said it first Rusty :-)

No holes.. BMW maintain "its normal, they all do it sir, its within tolerances"...

Whatever... Also.. It burns more in the winter (perhaps the fact that I do repeated 4 mile journeys twice daily and the engine never gets properly warm in the winter is a factor (uni books say its the main and most important engine killer). In the summer I do longer trips... Its got to be a factor me thinks...
