I'm struggling to sort out some decent trail tyres for my HP2 - It had Karoos on and I replace the first with about 2500 miles on it than the nmext one has lasted about 500miles although it did get some punishment along the way:green gri

I have tried to get some advice on the Mitas C-02 but it looks very iffy on the road due to a low speed rating.

I can't get a dealer close who has Trellborgs not can I find out what a T664 is that someone mentions is a great tyre.
The only tyre my dealer can get in time for BAskerville is a Karoo(T) which has a lower tread pattern than a Karoo and is quite a bit harder for more road work, and to top it all I have only heard the word "Shite" used in conjuntion with these tyres.

Any recomendations and suppliers please:o

I use Michelin Deserts, awesome off road tire, althought it is extremely important to heat cycle any tyre before you hammer it.

Ride the bike at respectable speed +- 80km/hfor 15 min and stop, wait for about 15min to let the tyre cool, repeat this about 3 times. the tyre will last a lot longer.

i have managed to destroy a TKC on the HP in 300KM without heat cycling and the current desert has 1000km on and showing hardly any sign of wear, but it is because i heat cycled it properly, beleive me the Desert has seen some punishment.

I don't think these are available in the UK:(

I really like the look of the Trellborgs and will get some sent up from England to be fitted after BAskerville as I need to set off Thursday morning.

I recon we should have a database of tyres suitable for the HP2.

As a point of interest I note that the New YAmaha XT-Tenere has the same size wheels as the HP2 so wonder what those guys fit, hopefully the choice will widen.

I've got deserts on mine now can say they's bluurdy good.....:thumb2

but do get very hot in comparison to the karoo's I have on before.

also much more forgiving a tyre than karoo on tarmac not so much a cement mixer more an industrial food processor.

I don't mind karoo's but they sure do not last long, i did a 2500k offroad jaunt a few weeks ago and started on karoo's, after 1000 k's they were stuffed and i switched to desert rear and starcross hp4 front with heavy duty tubes, hooked up real well and they got treated really mean, after 1500 k's the rear looks like it could go another 1000 k's and the front looks fine. Go with the deserts you will not be dissapointed:clap

I wouldn't recommend the Desert front unless you're riding sand pretty much 90% in which case there is nothing better. Its not good on tar and actually can be dangerous, I suffered a high speed wobble on a Desert Front on tar and was thrown clean off. The rear Desert is awesome though on all surfaces. I tend to use TKC front and Rear Desert both with Michelin's VHD tubes (the T63 is rubbish in case anyone was thinking of that piece of crap)
