each to their own but remember a triumph is really a kawasaki :rob ain't nothin new you will return to the dark side feel the force :augie :bounce1

Nah..they were in the 'early' days but completely different animal these days...top quality stuff nowadays...then again, I've just bought a....ahem....

Honda

When I was looking to replacy my Vstrom last month I had a test ride on both the 12GS and the tiger 1050.
Yes I think the tiger is a better road bike and the engine is fantastic but the little niggles really spoilt it for me. But the worst crime was the gearbox. Absolutely full of cornflakes crunching everytime. I was warned about the GS's gearbox being agricultural after the Vstrom but it's smoother than silky the silk worms silk pyjamas by comparison to the tiger. Triumph need to go and buy a couple of jap bikes and learn how to make a gearbox.

If I thought that all I was ever going to do on a bike is a quick Sunday blat I might have bought a tiger but I don't. I usually do 10K miles a year on a bike and I need a bike that's comfortable over distance.

I have only done 1300 miles on the GS so far so I can't comment on reliability issues yet but I can ride it all day quite happily. I don't think the tiger is an 'all day' bike.

They have failed to do that. The first Hinckeys were fitted with Honda boxes - it was the only bit on my sprint that every really worked properly. Then they decided to make their own - bold decision.

I had a tiger (old model) as a loaner. Horrible thing - what idiot decided to blank off the top cog in the box? Suspension was truly awful - all soft and long travel - just pogoed around the place.

I'd imagine they must be a lot lot better now - there's no way they'd sell otherwise.

had a good look at one on the weekend, it's pretty enough but -
1) if I came home with one my mrs would kill me, 'cos of the seat
2)it's a road only bike and that's all it will do

soooooo no good for me then as riding off road on the gs is the most amusing thing that you can do on two wheels

You know, instead of a GS, an old Africa Twin still cuts it.....incredible given it is 1980's technology. Of course I am biased :-)

Hi All,

...........and concerns about air cooled bikes, I bought my fourth Triumph Tiger instead.

Hmmmmm.... all bikes are air cooled - or do you always ride under water?
