Hi folks i am new in this forum and i have a very big problem with my gs! first of all i am sorry if i make any mistakes with the language!the problem is that the moto sends more fuel that it realy needs and as a result the engine stop's we check almost all the sensors but nothing !!I was wondering if any of you had any similar symptom or if you know something that it could be useful.
Thank you very much for your time
tzik1 (Kostas)

Turn the ignition on but do not start the engine.

Open the throttle fully, then close the throttle, then do it again.

Turn the ignition off.

Turn the ignition on and start the engine.

The above procedure re-sets the Throttle Position Sensors (TPS) and is the first and easiest thing to check.

Good luck :thumb2

PS What makes you think you are burning too much fuel?

my mechanic told me so ! he told me that he cannot find out why in all the range of the throttle 3000 rpm 4000 5000 gives much more fuel that she really needs!

Why does the mechanic think it is using too much fuel? What does the bike do that is wrong? Does it make lots of smoke from the exhaust?

he thought so because none burning fuel goes to the engine with the result the four pipes to be black and the exhaust makes like you shoot with a gun!so the engine without throttle doesn't start and stop's :nenau

Hey Kostas, you got an interesting problem there! It's difficult to know what is the problem from what you say, but from what you say so far it could also be a fault with the ignition. Has your mechanic looked for faults with the diagnostic computer? If not you need to start from the basics and check each part of the bike to check it's working OK.

I'd start with making sure the valve clearances are not tight and you have good compression on each cylinder. Check the spark plugs are OK and not cracked. Check to see if the plugs on one or both cylinders are black, if only one side then you have isolated the problem to one cylinder.

Any water got into the fuel tank by mistake? Can you hear the fuel pump working OK when you turn on the ignition?

Then check the electrics are OK and you are getting a good strong spark on each plug.

If that's all OK life gets more complicated and you really need a mechanic that has access to the diagnostic computer to check for sensor faults but you say you have done this?

yes the problems starts when in one gas station they put me fuel with something else inside perhaps water!! the point is that in the diagnostic there is no fault!!!! my mechanic fixes only big bikes and the most are BMW he has all the diagnostic from the official BMW from germany! It is a big question that we can't find what the problem is!he check all the part's separate and we will see!he told me that the final stage to do is to reset the main unit from the moto as final stage!but he don't want to do this because the problem will be hided and not solved! He wants some time to see all the other parts from the moto first!i have loose my sleep with all these but i cant do anything else but waiting and this gives me to my nerves!!:blast

Those symptons sound like the Throttle Position Sensor is at fault.

TPS is fitted on the outside of the left hand side Throttle Body.

Tzik1, have you filled it with Diesel fuel by any chance? I saw a Ducati do the things you say after it had some diesel fuel put in. Have you tried draining all the fuel and filling with good quality 98 RON unleaded petrol?

If all your problems started with a new tank of fuel, then for sure you must suspect that this is the cause of the trouble before you try looking for something else. As KMD says, drain the tank completely and fill with petrol you know is good.

The diagnostic computer will not show a problem unless a sensor has a fault.

If you search the 1150 technical forum you will find several threads on problems arising from water in the tank.

good luck!

As I said, TPS gives these symptons and may be hard to spot even with the BMW test rig.

Too much fuel - could be not enough air. Check your filter.

What were you doing before the problem.
Was the bike running fine ?
Had you just filled the tank ?
Had you just crossed a river ?
Did the problem happen quickly or has it been getting gradually worse ?

More info on the background please.

Yup. If there's no water/diesel in the tank, the TPS is the next thing to check. Funny it happened after a fill-up though?

Hi guys the problem final showed up !!!!:beerjug: it was the TPS that had error but it was so good hidden that the diagnostic monitor of the BMW doesn't saw it !!!! The guy that he fixes my moto put incide it the latest diagnostic program from the mother BMW and then we saw it!! i just order a new TPS and i wait to have my baby in my hands in the end of the week!! Thank you all very mush for your ideas and for your opinions !That saws that all the BMW riders in Europe are family in each country !! Thank you very much again!! :clap:JB:clap
