Sound or Dodgy Dealings

Sounds funny to me what's wrong with cash? If he offers more than the value and asks for you to pay the difference it deffo is a con. Why not subscribe here and list it and someone on here might buy it. JJH

Nothing funny, it's how they do it in europe. It's nice and simple. Sold a few to european buyers last year all with the same procedure. They deposit the money and pick the bike up at somepoint in the future, can be up to 6 weeks sometimes.
Try looking at it from the buyers point of view - depositing money into a foreign account with someone you don't know.

And you've advised that the person giving you the money is dodgy...

I had a similiar experience with a polish guy who got in touch from this site.
I was very apprehensive so met him at the local services, went to the bank and paid the money in and then went home for the docs.
Turned out he was a dealer and could source used bikes much cheaper in the UK.
I had thoughts of the cash being counterfeit so checked with the bank the day before. They said they would take the amount and check it was ok

Worked for me

"You" were apprehensive............................, put yourself in the other persons place.....
Ask for advice on ukgser about going to a european country to meet someone you don't know at a service station and the seller wants you to have the cash with you. :D

A mate of mine was done with fake notes. The buyer claimed that he had himself received the notes on a recent sale, and in the end they agreed to split the losses.

The moral of the story: nothing's wrong with cash, but take the buyer to the bank with you and have him give the money directly to the person behind the counter.

The tittle tattle on here is very intresteing helpfull and funny and makes this site worthwhile JJH

True. But its no guarantee that he will get his money. Only the bank can do that.

I advertised my 1150R in MCN a couple of years ago and the only responses I had were three enquiries from Europe. One was from a dealer in Holland. He said he would come over here (Lincoln) and test the bike and pay the advertised price if he was happy. He also said that he had another one or two to look at in UK. He arrived in the evening in a Merc with a 3-bike trailer and a mate - took the bike for a test (no helmet or anything) and said he would pick it up in the morning as he was staying at a local B&B and didn't want the bike on the trailer overnight. Arrived in the am with the cash - took the bike and set off. He kept in touch via e mail and told me when he had sold the bike on (within a week!). Also gave me an open invitation to stay with him anytime I happened to be in Holland. A real gentleman (who also tried very hard to communicate in English).
As others have said - it's the way they do business - but there will always be the odd deal that falls foul - but I believe that it is only the odd one.
