Anyone know if you can get torx socket screws in stainless, or do you have to get the coated mild steel jobbies via bmw?

Some of the crankcase fasteners on mine are pretty rusty. M6 x 30 & M6 x 70.

Or do I have to go for hex sockets?

cheers, Ross

Tried eBay?

Can't find the same type of socket heads for torx on evil-bay. There are hex(Allen) sockets, or torx button heads. Not sure if the button heads would fit the counterbores and using Allens would mean mixing the fastener types. As all the other fasteners are torx, I'd like to keep them all similar. I've Googled too and stainless Torx socket heads seem rare as Unicorns. I've emailed Camcar who invented Torx to see if it's possible to get stainless socket heads. I'm just loathe to give BMW any more money for fasteners which rust if used.

re stainless screws

hi mate
a short while ago i change my engine case screws over to stainless allen head. fair priced also look good.
if you do change your screws i would reccommend that you be carefull not to over tighten also put a bit of copper slip grease on the threads.
hope this helps good look.
best regards Ronnie :beerjug:

At least four bolts come with Mark Hooton's Crudcatchers - maybe he could source the additional ones at the same time?
