If anyone is planning to go through Southern Bavaria into Austria then they need to plan their route very carefully because the recent heavy rains have caused a lot of road closures.
I was heading north from Salzburg into the Bayerischer Wald and the towns of Braunau and Simbach am Inn have been very badly hit. The main route from Braunau to Passau is closed because of damage to a bridge and a lot of smaller roads you might try to use as a detour are also closed.
In the end I routed myself up towards Hengersberg via nice little back roads and I'm stopping just outside Regen before heading north tomorrow through the Bohmer Wald then across to the Harz mountains and eventually home.
No doubt German efficiency will sort it quickly but I'd avoid it for a few days
