Southern Ireland

Im planning a week in Southern Ireland over christmas on the bike. Its been 20 years since I went there last, It states you dont need a passport to enter but I cant see what ID they will want. I have a month left on my passport and dont plan to travel much in the next six months, being tight I dont want to spend on a new passport if I dont have to. Me and my Mrs are both UK born.
Any one any ideas?

Check with the ferry company to see what ID they need. I have never been asked for ID when travelling by ferry.

A passport is not necessarily valid right up to it's expiry date.
Every country is different, but a minimum 6 months validity is usual for most.....

Note that a photo driving licence is all you need to enter Ireland if you are arriving from England, but airlines and ferry companies can insist on a valid passport to travel with them.

Call the ferry company you will be using to check their policy.

Travelled both the Rosslare - Pembroke / Fishguard and Cairnryan - Larne / Belfast routes many times. Never been asked for a passport ( I don't bother taking it now ) and not often for ID. Driving licence has sufficed every time.

Not neccessarily.

What you should have and what you need are not the same.

As you say, you should have licence & insurance documents.

On a ferry to/from Ireland/UK or at the Irish end I have never asked for any form of I.D.
On planes, except for Cunnilingus, E.G. Vomitair, you generally need a passport.
On Cunnilingus, any form of I.D. is acceptable on the Ireland/UK routes.
