Although fairly new to me, Southport Superbikes treated me like one of the family. The whole business of negotiating the p/x and everything else was initially carried over the phone. Mike one of the partners made the whole thing a painless affair and offered the best price that far exceeded any other BMW dealers price that day. He phoned me back when he said he would (unlike one dealer that remembered to ring after I actually had my new GS in the garage) with a splendid deal.

I was so impressed that we went over on the Sunday to meet this guy face to face, we weren't let down, Mike is one of the friendliest dealers I know (I'm on my 30th bike now so I've met some).

When it came to the first service (180 mile round trip) I was in Southport for the day, not a bad place to be when the suns out!
There I was sitting out side in the sun reading my paper when a cup of coffee was offered to me by Mike, "there's the keys to a Boxster on my desk just help yourself, go off and enjoy it."

To right and I hadn't asked for a loan bike either, so I found out what its like on a BMW with a Remus in the middle of Southport.
Sounds great especially on the coast road, but I like the more refined sound of the big GS on its standard box.

When I returned there was another cuppa waiting for me.

Mike is backed up by his business partner and his very good Service Manager Roy and his team.

Great dealership, loads of BMW and other accessories, good location and really friendly people.:)

What did you part-ex ? A BMW or another make ?

I'm interested as I'm trying to get a good part-ex on a CBR600F to assist in purchasing a new 1150GS.

Regards,

Tone.

My P/X

I traded in a 2001 Pan European, other dealers were offering silly money whereas Mike gave me a realistic price. You could do no worse than to give them a ring and suss them out for yourself.
As I said they are really friendly people, but you must understand that the world and his wife have CBR6,s; well I had a 96 FT model
and that was a dam fine bike so I'm not criticising yours or anyone elses. Just be aware that there are alot about and the prices offered will reflect that. Sometimes it's not the deal but the aftersales service thats more important, you'll certainly get that from most BMW dealers anyway. Be honest tell the guy what your looking for and he'll be straight with you, it cuts out all the crap that delays the end result.
Get a GS and see futher than anyone else, go further than anyone else, go more smoothly and of course then theres the street cred of owning a superb bike to boot!
No I'm not on commission either, hope you get sorted.
Regards,

p/x

Tone, give SPC a call as well, I p/x'ed a 2001 Africa Twin, (deal over the phone) and they gave me £400 more than anyone in the UK also the GS was a really good price.
Not to bad a drive down, takes about four hours, from us, (Congleton) worth the petrol cost.
Highly recommended, ask for Steve in sales, 01420 588691, e-mail, [email protected] , web site, www.spc-bmw.co.uk.

Les,

Thanks for the info.

Am I right in assuming (Les & Congleton & bought bike from down South) that you're the Graphitan GS owner I met on the Plas Uchaf caravan site at Easter and who was good enough to spend time discussing the virtues of the GS ?

Regards,

Tone.

gs

Correct!:D, Glad to see you are still going for the gs, drop me a pm sometime and we could sort a ride out if you fancy.
Promise only to stick to the tarmac stuff, till you've changed the stead.

Afraid technology in this area has not really penetrated Southport Superbikes... email address is not even on their BMW reference site and their web page does not seem to have the contact email address....

I have it somewhere but, from previous experience, as they are my local dealer I find snail mail faster..... then of course it is often easier to pick up the phone and talk .....

LOL ..and then we bump into each other outside Riossi !!
( I wasn't buying anything - honest!!)
Kenny

Yeah, but I did in the end. Bought some gloves, visor bag and fogcity. They are selling at a percentage above cost and what will be left over on June 30 will be a mad rush...

I found Southport Superbikes to be superb re a trial ride. Met Roy, a very easy-going guy who doesn't put the sales pressure on. We went for ride, me initially on a GS, Roy on an Adventure. Halfway round, we swapped so I could compare the two.

And no insurance excess, either (Williams in Manchester impose ONE THOUSAND POUNDS excess, and Crewe 500 pounds).

I will probably be buying a GS one day - and though they are not the nearest, it will be from Southport Superbikes - good folks to deal with.
