Right - a few caveats to this and so if mods think it belongs somewhere else feel free to move.
I posted in the "other bikes" about a potential PX I'd been offered against a race car I have for sale. It's a genuine Foggy FP1. I'll confess I knew nothing about it when offered and so went to Google where there any many interesting stories about barns in Essex etc etc. The truth is almost as interesting and possibly worthy of a Netflix miniseries!
I won't bore you with the original concept behind it, but as you'll know it was developed for the World Superbikes and 150 homologated examples had to be built for the road. Turns out that only 100 were actually built. They were built over here then shipped to Petronas in Malaysia. The plan to sell them was scuppered by tax and export scandals in Malaysia and Petronas ended up having to buy them back. This article is as close to the truth as I have have heard.
Fast forward a few years and a vicar (yes really!) was offered one via is sister-in-law who worked for the Ministry of Finance in Malaysia. Having seen the others in the background of the photos he was sent, he formed a partnership for the import and restoration of the bikes. To date, I believe that 22 have escaped Malaysia. Three are a couple in Switzerland / Austria and a handful in private hands in the UK. One guy has 3, he trackdays one of them. A company called Lanzante took 10 and have restored them but not sure they have actually sold any as they are asking north of £70k. There are one or two in private / trade ads around the £45-50k mark. One fetched £31k in auction a couple of years back in unrestored condition. All the FP1's sold in the UK have gone through him.
Anyway, the deal I have on the table is that if can find a buyer for the last imported FP1, then I get the sale on my Formula Atlantic car to him. I asked the obvious question - if they are worth way more than he is prepared to let this one go at, why sell himself. His answer (and being a vicar I am taking him at face value - I do know he is legit, our paths have crossed in the historic racing scene, but I won't share his name here but put people in touch will if anyone is seriously interested), is that he has exhausted all his own bike collector contacts. He says the last two he sold one for £44k and £46k. Take that as you will.
Anyway the bike. It is zero miles and is undergoing recommissioning with the aforementioned reverend. He has done several (some went unrestored). It comes with all the NOVA documentation for registration (I believe they get a "current" registration on application but check that for yourself. Only two bikes were produced in the plain black carbon finish (the rest were Petronas branded), the other one is still in Malaysia. There is the option of having it in Petronas colours as he has additional body parts. Many of the components were off the shelf but there are also spares available for the bespoke parts and consumables (clutch etc) as engine builder Suter have a stock).
Having initially turned down his offered of a straight swap for my car on the basis that I don't know enough about this kind of machine I am attempting to broker a three way deal to allow all parties to end up with their chosen outcome (mine is the cash!!). I may yet still do the deal directly with him and stick it in auction as it'll take up far less space than the car (also photographed below).
I can answer limited questions about it and I realise that on the above, it all seems quite far fetched! However, I can put interested parties in direct contact with the seller / restorer.
Photos below - I also have a video that I can forward.
Price - £35,000
