Hi all,
Coming back through France last week stopped for fuel, but the only squirt available was SP95 -E10 ....
Now I'm fully aware that this unleaded has 10% ethanol added, but had no option than to add it.

I've written to Technical over this but have had no e-mail response as yet.

I have a 09 (Sept) registered GS, can 10% ethanol be used??? or is this percentage over what the hoses & seals are designed for.

Spanners ready just in case i need to drain in fast.....

Regards

I dont know if 10% will damage the system but surley if you use it and top up there will be less and less to do any damage? I think that damage to hoses and seals is a more long term effect and once will not do damage. I am sure that there was a liter or three in the tank before you topped up which already dilutes the 10% down. JJH

Ethanol is a highly corrosive substance! It will cause your bike to attract dirt and dead flies, probably affect the final drive seals, create unfathomable electrical problems, introduce arthritis into your knee joints and affect your vision over a period of time too. All you can do is fill up as usual and go out for a long and spirited ride.

Does it have any effect on semi sythetic engine oil or lead to a an exhaust cat-astrophe

E10? It will bugger your cat....

....but don't worry that will be going when you get your new headers and end can... roll on the knock-out round poll.... :thumb

...actually, I just made all that up. :D

Whever the answer, and I suspect that it will all be fine, I would rather pump a few litres of E10 down the tubes than the 33 odd litres of prime diesel I added.... Smokey and the bandit had nothing on me for a week or two....

I've got all that already and I haven't been to France in years :augie

Had a response from the "Techies"....The use of unleaded fuel with an ethanol content is excess of 5% shouldn't be used in the 1200 sport..... that fecked it then..... the use even temporary can harden seals so isn't recommended & will invalidate my now worthless warranty.

You mean to tell me that the knobs in Germany build machines in 2009 not realising these changes to EEC fuel specifications.... what a laugh:eek:

regards

Do you mean to say that you told them what you did? Why did you not just make a general enquiry? JJH
