I've just aquired a very smart set of H&B engine bars for my 1150 from Bryn. :thumb The trouble is, despite trying, he was unable to supply the fixings needed.

The longer M10 bolts required are no problem, but does anyone know where I can source the metal spacers needed to go in the frame / footpeg recesses? I think they need to be internal diameter about 10.5mm, external diameter about 15-18mm in lengths 12,17 and 20mm. Motobins can supply a complete fixing kit for £25 inc post  , but that seems like a lot of dosh for not very much really....

Failing that is there any technical reason why I shouldn't just fit the right number of normal M10 washers over the bolts to pack out the space? Also is it OK to use A2 stainless bolts to replace the original subframe bolts?

Thanks

Mark

Personally I don't see why a heap of washers would not do the trick as, from what I can see, the spacer simply keep the edge of the bars away and clear of other bike components, so that they can be bolted down securely.

The only thing I would have a think about is this: if ever your bars do what they are designed for and protect you bike by eating dirt before it does, what would be the impact (no pun intended) of not having a solid spacer, but rather a set of washers at a stress point? Would any lateral stress of the bar trying to absorb an impact react differently if there was a spacer there. Surely it can't be worse than no bar at all, though.

Failing that see ifany local metal workers/engineers have any metal cylinders of the right diameter handy that you can cut and drill through :nenau.

Mark, why not check your yellow pages for a small one-man machine shop locally and get him to knock you up a set on a lathe for about tenner in stainless, it'd pay for his fags or a pint or two.

It'd take a skilled machinist all of about 10 minutes in those sizes.

If I wasn't the busiest man alive just lately at work, I'd jump on a lathe and make you a set. Sorry mate.

Spacers

Had the same problem rcently, used 3/8" schedule 80 heavy wall tube, cut to size with a pipe cutters, no two were the same, measured the depth first then cut to fit. washers that dia that fits into the mounting are impossible to find. Needed a bit of care to get around the brake pipes, Also change the alternator belt ( if required )before fitting the bars, difficult to get the cover off, Lesson learned, know better next time

Thanks for the replies guys. So M10 washers don't fit.....bummer :(

What about the bolts. Most suppliers state that Stainless bolts should not be used in "High Tensile Situations" Does this qualify as one? Does anyone know what type the H&B and BMW supplied bolts are?
