I went into my local key cutters yesterday, trying to get a spare key cut for my 2017 bike. I don’t need an electronically coded key, just one to unlock boxes/GPS/seats...
“You can’t get them mate. You have to go to BMW and they charge a fortune”
I can’t believe that’s true... is it?
Assuming it’s not, where have you guys got them from?

£22 from BMW dealer, arrived within 48hours

Just call your local BMW with the VIn get it cut 20 quid out of wallet job done, you aint gonna save much looking around.

I asked similar of my dealer.

They handed me a huge box of keys. I brought my topbox in and they let me sit in the store trying keys in my topbox over a coffee. Must have been 300/400 sets of keys. It took me just one cup of coffee to find a bunch of three keys that all worked.

All FOC

I’ve never had so many bike keys and I’ve got a “Keyless ride”

Weird that is so why do they need the VIN number if some keys fit all, I smell a BMW scam.............

No scam. Pannier/topbox key locks are fair less sophisticated than the actual bike ignition. So easy to find a match from a large pile.

Make sure to ask for s metal key or you might end up with a £45 plastic one like I did

Is the plastic one you mean the extra security key that you put under the rear mudguard, if so did not know about that, might just get one. :beerjug:

Keyless :D love that when you need keys for everything else.

While the frase is a nice "play with words", my experience with keyless so far is positive.

You don't need the spare key, as there is a built in key in FOB that works. However, the lower lock in my topbox tends to clog up and the collapsable key in the FOB is a bit flimsy, so I opted for a spare uncoded key that I always keep in a pocket in the tankbag.

I rarely lock my topbox and I rarely undo my seat, and keeping the FOB in my jacket at all times is quite convenient.
My next bike will also, if at all possible, be equipped with a keyless ride :clap

Agree it has advantages, but a disc lock or Roadlok is a must.

I see your point.
I do have a discklock, but never used it. I live in a part of the world where I park the bike with keys (have more than one) at home with key in ignition. When we stop for coffee we hardly ever lock anything, so I can only say that I feel your pain.

Just seen Norway, lucky you, however was like that in Germany before, gradually changing.

I had one cut at Timpsons £10 no problem at all, as said no need for coded key. I had one cut just for the locks as I keep the wireless key on a lanyard around my neck so I don't loose it seeing as they cost a fortune to replace.

The key is ordered via the parts department (with V5 + passport if they don't know you) and the key comes from Germany:beerjug:

Given that the bike needs to be seen to (hopefully) rectify various faults seen as “under warranted” they SHOULD be able to organise that... I hope!

It was a Timsons that I went to in the first place...
