Yes, you should definitely have got a plastic key with a tab with the K code as per the photo is post #14. I bought a second (additional) plastic key to leave in a safe place at home as an emergency backup.
I think you must had mislaid it. My bike is 9 months old (it is a GS rather than a GSA) and I definitely have an additional plastic key.Maybe a dumb question but I was checking all the paper work on my year old GSA and I don’t recall getting a second plastic fob for emergency starting. I checked all my instruction book with the BMW emergency breakdown cover and the book has all the bikes details filled in.
I do recall with my old 1250 I got an electric key but a small plastic one and a bar code with a K code on it.
Have I misplaced the plastic fob for emergency starting?

Yes those are the options I was told at my dealer the full on flip out key around £200, the plastic wallet key about £46, and a replacement blade £20 odd. When I asked my dealer they said "yes we can order a metal key," When I picked it up it was a kit to replace the metal key on your fob so it had no handle instead it came with a couple small pins. He showed me their fiche which shows 3 key options; fob, plastic key, and fob metal replacement key. I guess I'll fabricate something for the end of the key to hold on to. It was $33 which he said was cheaper than a plastic key replacement.

Just not seeing why you would need another key when you're already carrying the fob key. I want to unhook the caeses, I've got my fob but where's my second key now?
The fob key is perfectly capable of unlocking the cases and gps, every time, all the time
I'll tell you why I need one: my favourite idiocy is leaving the key in the seat lock.. Friends of mine usually leave it dangling out of their topbox. I know it's unlikely to fall out (of the seat) but I can easily snap it getting on & off the bike or even leave it there and walk off. Cheap to replace they are not! I don't really do "day-rides", so if I'm out, I'm out-out and usually a long way from home.Just not seeing why you would need another key when you're already carrying the fob key. Same here. I have my main fob in a pouch round my neck and really don't want to risk losing or breaking the blade off inadvertently…yes i can be clumsy…I'll tell you why I need one: my favourite idiocy is leaving the key in the seat lock.. I must confess that I am a bit OCD/fussy/autistic about keys (ask my family) so I carry my disklock and BMW copy key on a keyring. Around my neck in a neoprene pouch on a chain I carry my emergency key and disklock spare (no copy key because.... for that I have the main key!). My main key really never comes out of a zipped pocket.
Bingo….Found it…It was actually in the coin pouch of my wallet….Yes, you should have a grey plastic key as well as the normal fob, I believe it has a chip in it

When I had keyless I used to keep the fob in the zipped up pocket of my textile trousers and all my other keys on a lanyard in my jacket pocket. That way I couldn't loose my fob and no one could nick it. My 1250RS SE didn't come with it as standard so I didn't bother with keyless this time.Same here. I tend not to do that as i wash my troos and jacket after a tour and once left a nice point and shoot camera in one of the pockets…also read a thread on here of someone's key going in the wash as well.. Prefer to keep it in a pouch round my neck on a lanyard. When I had keyless I used to keep the fob in the zipped up pocket of my textile trousers and all my other keys on a lanyard in my jacket pocket. My key arrived today, perfect, in fact I think it’s smoother in operation than the originalMe too![]()
Trebor thanks for the part number, bingoYes, you can get one from BMW, but it seems that some dealers don't know how to order one for the R1300GS/GSA.
I'm sure it is just the same blank as used for the 12 series.
I got mine from Bowker's at Preston, but they no longer do Motorbikes, it cost £22.
However, you can get one made at online key cutters for about a tenner less by just sending a photo.
I've just checked my invoice and the part number and description for the key is 51 25 7688674, Key without transponder by code.
Glad it worked, and happy to help.Trebor thanks for the part number, bingodealer used that and the key was delivered next day, £26 down south price
