Hi,

First post on this site and already I am asking for advice! I am wondering which spares to bring for a Belgium to India trip. My wife and I are 2up on a 1998 1100gs with 105000 kilometers and have been on the road for a while (the Americas).

We have had numerous problems with this bike since we left home and I have now become fully paranoid just waiting for the next breakdown (so far on our 15 month trip we have spent a total of 4 months waiting for parts or repairs and now once again our bike sits outside split in half while the gearbox is at the shop). So here is a list of what has been repaired followed by what I am thinking of bringing as spares.

Prior to trip (about 55000 kilometers on odometer) I had changed the following:

Fuel pump
All transmission seals
Clutch (because of the transmission seals leaking and contaminating clutch)

What has been repaired/replaced during this trip (from 60000 kilometers to now):

All transmission seals (yes, again!)
Gearbox bearings and M97 shaft
Rear main seal (the seal between engine and flywheel, this was done twice)
Hall Effect Sensor
Fork seals on both tubes
Rear brake rotor
Rear Ohlins (twice)
Frame welded (twice)
Needle bearings on FD (twice)
Bearings on Swingarm
Bevel seal (not sure about the name, the small one in the FD) – Twice
Pivot pins (the ones that attach FD to swingarm)
(and probably a few other things I have since blocked out of my memory)

What I am now completely paranoid about after checking out this site:

TPS
Lambda probe (going to Iran, leaded fuel might be a problem)
Injectors
Ignition coil
Hall Effect Sensor

Should I bring along the 5 items listed above? Would you bring anything else (other than very strong anti-depressants)?

Cost of these spares is obviously a big concern (our “repair and maintenance” budget has long since been shot to hell) but we would rather spend now than pay import duties and shipping costs later in the middle of nowhere.

Thanks!

Brian
