Thought I'd share this - I had a rough running problem with my 2003 twin spark GS, not a full blown misfire, but fluffy throttle response and much more backfiring than usual.

Booked it in to Williams who yesterday replaced corroded spark plug coils under warranty and restored normal performance and nice burble while I drank coffee and watched cricket. :)

I saw the failed parts but didn't keep them so can't post any pics!

Very common fault - especially if you go "fording" - fanum knows all about it :D

prevention better than cure

Hi Steptoe, do you have any suggestion for preventing this happening again? I was thinking of silicone grease . . .

So where are these spark plug coils? too lazy to look.

Unclip the plastic protector from the cylinder head and pull the lead out.....the solid bit that goes onto the tip of the plug contains the coil.

I just make sure mine are dry after a ford ride now.....they don't often get water in but if you get submerged for any time, it can leak past the rubber ring and stay in there and the case of the coil will swell with corrosion.
