Hi all
Bought some new spark plugs for my 1100 gs from motorworks, i was told that the bosch platinum fr6dp are good
Well thought i might just check them against the original fr6ddc , the new ones measure 1.3 mm longer from the end of the thread face to the tip ie the part that might hit my internals.
Has anybody came across this before and would you please let me know if they are ok or not.
Rang motorworks they said yes fine but two bmw dealers werent sure.
Please help dont want to have a disaster before i even get my new toy on the road.
Many thanks Adam

The Bosch FR6DDC (dual electrode) should be fine according to info I have on my files. I have the FR5DTC (Triple electrode), Autolite 3923 and Bosch F6DC (single electrode) listed.
This info comes from here so I reckon you are OK.

I went to a talk last night given by the Technical Manager and the Technical Trainer of NGK (UK) and bloody interesting it was too! Did you know that they make lambda sensors too? According to NGK, plugs are becoming engine specific and they are increasingly making plugs to engine makers specs. The twin plug GS was given as one example and I quote

" the second plug is there simply to help BMW get through USA emission regs. The second plug helps to combust the remaining unburnt fuel and prevents it fouling the catalytic converter. It in no way contributes to improving power or throttle response"

This is when I stand back and get my head below the parapet!!! :thumb

So then, let's disconnect it and see if it makes any difference to the running.

BTW, if anyone does go down the NGK route, the part number for plugs for the single plug R1150GS is as follows

BKR7EKC (Standard plugs) or BKR7EIX (Iridium plugs)

Both require a 0.8mm gap

For the twin plug models, you will need the plug specified above and this 12mm plug too

DCPR8EKC

You can get more info for the BMW singles and other models here

Sorry, but the hyperlink inserter thingy isn't working so you'll have to cut 'n paste. :thumb

Park Lane BMW did pretty well exactly that to mine and then tried to tell me they didn't. I can confirm that I did notice a drop in performance.
