The spark plug leads on my 97 R1100GS are looking a bit tired, and chaffed in a few places. Rather that wait for them to fail, I thought replacing them would be a good idea. The BMW OEM ones look to be about £80-£90 a pair, but Magnecor list an 8mm set for £35 or an 8.5mm set for £41. I'm not looking for increased performance, just a good set of leads at a reasonable price. Has anyone fitted aftermarket leads to their bike?

I'll answer my own question. I rang Magnecor and had a conversation with a very helpful member of staff. Their price list only shows leads for R1100S and R1150GS 4/1999-03. However they gave me the lead lengths (27" each) and the fitting types. A quick check on my 97 R1100GS confirmed that the leads should fit so I ordered a pair of 7mm black leads, as I was assured they would be just as good as the oem ones, and I wasn't keen on putting blue leads on my yellow and black bike :D

They arrived in under two days, fitted perfectly and worked without any issues. Does the bike start better... nope, go faster... nope, use less fuel...nope. But the new leads should last a good while and not fail on me in the middle of no-where, and they were half the price of the BMW ones.

8mm blue code 2019 £35.62
7mm black code 2719 £35.06
8.5mm red code 2519 £41.48

(all per pair of leads, ex VAT and postage)
